Dock Boss Marda cannot be killed if you have attacked without going through the dialogue.
I attacked the Dock Boss through the interaction menu as I was getting a bit tired and wanted to save a bit of time rather than go through the dialogue. However, having got her down to very nearly dead and the hit points bar on her icon empty I still could not kill her. I inflicted over 400 points of damage, incuding several massive criticals, after the hit point bar was empty but still she wouldn't die.
Eventually I transistioned out (having had her chase me thorugh the caves) and transitioned back in again. At that point the dialogue cut in and she was defeated after the dialogue worked.
No actual harm done to my toon, but this might be deadly if you're unlucky.
Her conversation is vital to complete the quest. Killing her before the conversation would block the PC from completing the quest.
