At least NWN2 has Greater weapon focus and Specialization for high level fighters, but most fighters have all the feats they really want by the middle line of levels 1-20.
That means you can either keep taking fighter levels, and start taking feats that don't matter much, or start taking levels in other classes to give your character more zazz.
I had a pure fighter in NWN1 if it helps, didn't even go weaponmaster when I could have..
I regularly got destroyed by everyone else except for -some- rogues.

well i'm going for fighter 12 / wm 7 i think, don't know if the last level will be fighter, wm or a randomclass to get level 1 benefits and be cool!
i think i can be considered "somewhat pure" fighter! :p

Shar-Teel, swordwoman extraordinarie (yeah sure)

To each his own Zandes, what makes the world go round.
sure scythes crits hurt, but you need to confirm those crits etc, i don't like relying on luck...you could as well get lucky and do 150 or whatever damage once x 2 rounds, but you could as well do normal damage (sub par damage for a 2 handed weapon tho) for 5435234 rounds...this is why i don't like relying on crits :p

Scythes also have a psychological effect on players though, which is another point in thier favor. I know in my PnP campaign whenever I hear of an enemy with a scythe I think "oh HELL..." so it acts as a deterrant for other players attacking me (since they don't want to risk a crit taking them out).

sure, but it is a kind of weapon that should be rare...
the problem is that there are more scythe wielding fighter than randomweapon ones :p
at least lower level fighter classes, i have yet to see a level 10+ with a scythe
so yes, i'm sure (well my character is) that they are all stupid farmers who pretend to be adventurers!! :p

I don't know if it's relevant to post this here, but I'm a D&D pen-paper player, and I remember back in 3.0 the Weapon Master was ridiculous.
It was excluded from 3.5, of course. and when I was shocked to see it back in NWN2. Then I noticed the Special Abilities were changed. Significantly.
In the p-p 3.0 ed, the Weapon Master has increased multiplier at lvl 2.
Pretty crazy. But then the uses per day was limited, like Ki Damage.
Both Ki Dam and Inc Multi were activated only upon a hit, and thus never wasted when you miss (unlike Smites)
In NWN2 the earliest one can be a WM is at character level 6, and that makes the goodies come in at character level 12.
Balanced in a way, but ....

I suspect the reason a weapon master doesn't get many more bonuses after 7 is probably because he/ she is already one of the most vicious and powerful fighters at that point.
The thing I love about the WM class is that you have plenty of room to compromise a power build for role playing reasons, and still emerge an incredibly powerful force.
I would take the build that incorporates Rogue such that you have some fun skills to play with at higher level further enhancing his / her role playability.
Two ducats banked

In my p-p campaign where i was the DM, there was the logic for intelligent NPC spellcasters to mind-control the party's WM first, use him to surprise attack the potential "dispellers".. and then the rest is easy.ConcordDawn wrote:The thing I love about the WM class is that you have plenty of room to compromise a power build for role playing reasons, and still emerge an incredibly powerful force.
It's almost the same result on the Frenzied Berserker or even a fighter, but a WM is usually more fragile and more easily dispatched after being useful. (Less feats than a fighter, less hp than a Barb.)

Scythes only have a psychological effect because everyone is familiar with the scythe wielding "Grim Reaper" or "Death". Harvesting the souls, etc etc..Hillslayer wrote:Scythes also have a psychological effect on players though, which is another point in thier favor. I'm going to giggle when a Pale Master PC serves some Scythe Wielding Weaponmaster who can't crit him.
Greataxe is nearly as good as a scythe if you want to use something other then a scythe. Personally I think the scythe is cooler looking.
Falchions are also excellent WM weapons. Great sword is not bad at all, mathmatically it is only slightly worse then a scythe. In practice the smaller consistant crits aren't quite as effective, but its still a great weapon.

Actually I wasn't refering at all to this but rather the fact that the idea of being randomly hit for massive damage is far scarier then the idea of constantly being hit for moderate amounts.obsoletenihilist wrote: Scythes only have a psychological effect because everyone is familiar with the scythe wielding "Grim Reaper" or "Death".
