The dagger penetrated deep into Obsidian’s cold black heart, cracking ribs and ripping his insides and finally with another thrust coming out the other side pinning him to the bed. Wide eyed Obsidian gasped his final breath as blood bubbled out of his mouth. His body only slightly trembled now, his grip around Shasta’s neck loosed his hands dropped. The struggle had been quick. Picking herself up off the bed Shasta rasped, “Now who got done?” slowly she walked over to the rags that had been her clothes before Obsidian had ripped them off her. She fell to her knees and began to cry. Time passed her by with out her caring. She had been desecrated by a man she had always held high.
A knock was heard at the door. “Sir, 6: oo am time for the rounds.”
Shasta stood and glided behind the door as it opened. Looking through a crack in the door she looked at the man who entered. Marcus, Obsidian’s first commander. He was tall and muscular, he wore a hard boiled leather jacket with metal studs that protruded from the shoulder, he carried a club at his side and small shield on his back. Leather skirt with metal plating covered his loins and metal grieves on his legs.
He just stood their looking at the bloody mess on the bed that use to be Shasta’s father. Marcus’s hand moved slowly to his club. He was a young man who Shasta had been in love with since she had first seen him and now she was going to have to kill him. He turned now with club in hand to the door and moved slowly towards it.
“I know you’re in here,” he said “come out now!”
He walked slowly towards the door. “Almost,” she whispered, “almost...” She whipped the door closed clashing with Marcus’s head knocking him back. She leaped past Marcus onto the bed and wrenched the knife from her father’s chest. Marcus was bleeding from the eye after the door had taken him in the face; he swung wildly smashing the body of his captain and the bed. Shasta sprung from the bed taking the Marcus in his stomach. Her hand reached up grabbing his shoulder she pulled him onto her dagger pushing it through his armor.
He dropped his club and looked down at the naked figure of his captain’s daughter. Marcus had always loved her starting form the moment he had seen her but he had known that his captain would not have approved. “Shasta?” the last words he spoke before he dropped to the floor and closed his eyes for the last time.
The two men Shasta had loved now lay dead on the floor by her hand, yells where heard from down the hall way. Wrenching the dagger from Marcus’s chest she ran and leapt out of the window and plummeted towards the alleyway below, landing on her leg which snapped at a right angle. She screamed loud and long but knowing she couldn’t stay their or she would die she hobbled out of the alleyway, across the street and to the nearest house. She fell against the door. As she slipped form conscience the door opened and their stood a man dressed in armor.

The darkness is cold. But what makes darkness worse in the element of the unknown, and to a human being nothing can be as scary as the unknown. It is the same element that drives children to be scared of the monsters under their beds. And as Shasta laid there in the darkness, the cold darkness she wondered upon the circumstances that had caused her to become such as she is now. She lay their on a bed of straw in a dark room. She had movement in her once broken leg and had hobbled around the room to discover with her hands a basin used for washing and a dresser which the basin sat upon. Clothed now Shasta had explored the room she was in over the past three hours and discovered it to be a large room being six by four meters in size. A large door was located directly two meters from the left side of the bed. Light had been shining through the key hole for the past hour.
Shasta stood. To stay in darkness meant questions unanswered and that would drive her mad, she moved to the light. Bending over she attempted once again to look through the key opening to no avail. The light hurt her eyes to much as her eyes had already adapted to the dark. Reaching into her black long flowing hair she produced two steel metal rods no thicker than a needle. Placing the rods into the lock she began to pick it. Suddenly on the other side of the door noises where heard. A man had stood as if from a large wooden chair. He moved towards the door, his footsteps seemed to ring loud in Shasta’s mind urging her to go faster.
Suddenly the light coming through the key hole vanished as the shadow of the man came over it. He gave a distasteful grunt which caused Shasta to Jump backwards landing hard on her bottom. She let out a loud Screech in frustration, “let me out you big oaf!”
A laugh was heard from the outside and a key turned in the lock. When the door opened to Shasta’s surprise it was not a man who stood in the doorway or for that fact a human.
In the doorway stood a woman with large protruding tusks and sharp teeth and green skin. Compared to Shasta she was a giant but Shasta had never been tall. Shasta swore under her breath as she studied the woman’s large hunting knife she had sheathed for she knew how orcs love their human meet, Raw.
Now wishing for her questions to stay unanswered and preferring to go mad she grabbed the door and slammed it shut in the orcs face. But unfortunately it bounced right back off the orcs body.
“I guess the saying about curiosity kill the cat is true huh?” She whimpered to the orc. The orc boomed with laughter and looked like she needed to sit down. “Did you really think I was going to eat you,” she said, “I could have skinned you and ate you before you even woke up you slept so long!”
Shasta was surprised. Not only could the orc talk her language it did it better than most men. They stood there for awhile while the orc caught her breath from nearly dying of laughter though Shasta was still trying to find what was funny. Finally to break the silence Shasta brought up enough courage to say, “ So did you just open the door to laugh at me or did you come in here for a reason!” now realizing her mistake of talking rudely to a seven foot orc she wished she could take it back and in fact took steps backwards from her.
“I like you you’ve got fire,” was the orcs response, “but that in this town will get you killed. And yes I cam here for a reason, my master wishes to see you.”
The thought of a ‘master’ of a orc didn’t go to well with Shasta but she really didn’t have a choice, and she did have some questions of her own.
They moved out into the lit room and moved fast up the stairs, the orc saying the reason was so that she didn’t see anything, though her eyes had not adjusted to the light so the odds of her actually seeing something where slim. The orc moved her to a room down a well lit hallway and opened the door and ushered her in. the room was silent.
Their Shasta stood in the silence as she waited for her eyes to focus. As she did she came to behold the largest man she had ever seen sitting on a chair behind a large oak desk. The man wore armor and he sat rigid for it. He had long white hair and a face that could take any girls heart but she knew what man her was. An Aasimar he was but he was a cruel and vile one not worthy of the name. He had been the trouble of her fathers business for a long time. Destroying her father’s men and even his women that carried out his business. And now she stood their in his chambers with him on one side and a orc on the other. Swearing under her breath she whispered, “Shea Evilbane…”

Shea frowned for the girl had the advantage of knowing who he was but he did not have the same advantage. He studied the girl who stood in front of her, her stance was rigid and he face was a face of distaste with her facial features all screwed up. She was a pretty girl with long black hair and a nice tanned body. Not tall but not short she stood their in his old clothes that he wore as a by and still had a command about her, she was not one of inferior birth. The girl was intimidated by her and he knew not why.
“Are you going to stare at me all night with such a distasteful look on your face or talk as you did ask me to come here,” she almost said with a steady voice, if Shea hadn’t been listening close he would of never heard the small fault in her voice. “I do not have all day!” she said raising her voice.
He smiled, “I think you will find you do have all day,” Shea said walking out from behind his desk, “being my guest I will decide when you can go.” Shea was determined to work out where this girl had gotten such a bad image of him and to change it. “Now tell me, who are you?”
Her eyebrows crept and held for a second before they fell and her mouth took upon the look of a smirk. “Ha!” she exclaimed, “you don’t know who I am!” she walked over to Shea and looked up at him while he crammed his neck to look down. “You sir are not a very nice person,” was all she said. Mar’ ah burst into laughter behind her using the door frame to support her so she didn’t fall to the floor. Shea smiled and so did the girl as she began to circle the room. She walked around Shea’s desk running her hand across his things humming. He didn’t care what she saw; there was nothing on the desk worth hiding. Mar’ ah had another burst of laugher and faltered grabbing the door frame ad collapsed to the floor. Shea turned from the girl to look at Mar’ ah when suddenly a great smash was heard behind him. He swiveled around with dagger in hand that had previously been at his waist to find his window smashed and the girl missing, along with his paper weight.
Moving to the window he caught a glimpse of the girl as she ran down the nearest alley way. Mar’ ah walked over to him, “ do we hunt her?” she said.
“no let her run…”
