Well, this thread is officially derailed. But anyway, I think the OP's points about wand usage/abuse have been addressed. It is, in fact, meant as a "balancing" aspect for melee players and an essential tool for soloers. Not to mention, it is kind of fun.
That said, be prepared to ditch a lot of those wands once the crafters of the Order of the Diamond figure out the CMA&A recipes. Then you will be able to gripe that everyone and his grandma is running around dual wielding swords, one flaming, the other emitting lightning, with armour resistant to elements, and spoons doing +4 dmg on every attack and saying that the content is made just plain boring with such outstanding gear.
And everyone will have millions of gold because they won't need wands anymore, and you'll have to start a new thread about what to do with all that gold.
Ain't it about time to get started on that RP storyline and build up a faction to kill some of us pirates? After all, we're just a bunch of salty sea dogs, usually drunk and raising cain everywhere we land. Arrrr!

Bobzim, I sure hope you guys figure out out soon, although there are a lot of things that are not listed in the craftable items list.
IE: Ring with invulnerably to death magic, perma haste belt, amulet of natural armor, bracers of +6 dex, ring with feats (ie: blind fighting, improved crit), etc....
Maybe those kinds of misc things will be added eventually, however once you can craft what is actually listed right now, it will go a long way to helping balance.

I'm sorry, but I almost spit out my coffee when I read that list. You can't be serious, can you? I mean, almost any of those items would be a lifetime's achievement for any average adventurer...TheSilverHammer wrote:IE: Ring with invulnerably to death magic, perma haste belt, amulet of natural armor, bracers of +6 dex, ring with feats (ie: blind fighting, improved crit), etc....

That's why I am not sure I follow the suggestions in this post and wanted to clarify. At first I thought it was about Das not being low magic because of wands and people taking one level in a class or using UMD but then I realized that was not what the point was. Then it quickly got me confused about money sinks and wands and we got into semantics of DR and ER. What I guess is the suggestion now is to allow access to everyone the same things people have to use wands for now through powerfull items. So a amulet of natural armor +4 would eleminate the need for a potion of barkskin belts of haste would eliminate the need for a wand of haste (man that has to be a money sink) items with +6 stats to replace bull str or cats grace wands/potions/charms etc etc. etc. Turning the world into very high magic. I don't understand how this would help the money sinks cause now everything would be a one time investment (not sure if that was part of the point but I thought it was). I just wanted to be clear what the OP was suggesting or getting at.
Did you know that the average fish contains more mercury than a rectal thermometer? Would you eat a rectal thermometer?!

This wasn't about money sinks, it was another thread.
Crispy: It depends on the world. Stock NWN2, items like that are common. The Belt of guiding light comes to mind, it offers immunity to death magic, and it is what, level 6? Hardly some end game epic item.
