Should have put in a little qualifying statement of between player characters who cannot cause permanent death-dealing effects.

Sure there is...

A mysterious stranger steps out of the shadows. While Raymond is engaged with yet another citizen who is refusing to sheath their weapon within the city limits, the stranger quickly tosses a handful of strange, noxious dust in Raymond's face. Within seconds, his skin starts to peel off, and he dies an agonising death as his flesh is literally stripped from his bones. The stranger walks away, a small smile playing across his face, he is never seen again. The end.

Good luck Anders. Expect the unexpected! :D
I hope these situations aren't as abrubt as Wyv described.

Then again . . .

I would hope a player would take a little more time to add a little backstory and context to that. Not using that as a launching point for a full-blown story seems like a waste of effort.

Nope...people do stuff like that. Hell, I could probably start a comedy thread over in OOC about some of the ridiculous things I've seen.

Edit for clarification: Not necessarily on Dasaria.

Just because there isn't a huge dramatic build-up towards a pvp engagement doesnt mean its necessarily weak.

My ranger saw someone attacking that poor druid. Charged in yelling "You no smash druid lady!" and took a couple of swings at him. And that was it. No one died and that was that.

You are right of course. But i'm not used to players forcing their roleplay onto others who just want to get away from it. I got two rooms away before I got attacked in the back.

And don't get me wrong. I love roleplaying, coming from a history of MUDs and MUSHes throughout the nineties where all you had was roleplay. I just wasn't in the mood for the "me bash you" kind of roleplay tonight, and tried to avoid it. Now I know that you can't avoid people's "roleplay" no matter how uninspired you think it is, so I won't be as taken aback next time.

I am guessing that it was you that attacked Rhode. No time for a lot of RP build up prior to this but I was fine with it (although the druid was handing Rhode his butt). Rhode just went hunting for you once he got away. I was having fun trying to stalk you after that. Wish you had stayed on a little longer.

As for the character who initiated the attack in the Den I am taking a guess as to who that was and if I am right, that is the RP that matches the character as its being played. Just be glad you got a warning as this character just likes to beat on things and is rather simple minded. It really is best just to let this character go on it business. (Rhode found it amusing to watch this character earlier and had some limited RP with him.)

Well there is a bonus to it being a persistent world eh?

Just a question. If you have a clear powerbuild, won't it be likely that over time people will simply do whatever it takes to RP or non-RP their way out of PvP type situations such that essentially for you to get any PvP - RP and / or the combat you would have to grief IOW you can't.

Is it a potential downside for a clear uber-build that in fact, a build built to crush other characters may never get much chance to do so 'cause who wants to PvP agaisnt someone where you have zero chance of winning? Did it work like that on Das1?

Either that, or they just faded away.

Rhode doesn't stand a chance against Bronco's character. That doesn't mean that he can't make a nuisance of himself and make Bronco's character constantly looking over his shoulder every time he might need a rest. There are so many possible RP elements that can be taken that Rhode doesn't need to win or even to ever fight Bronco's character again. As Rhodes player I still have no idea what he will do if he sees Bronco's character again. It all falls into his alignment which should not be planned out.

Short answer,

It was very BAD roleplaying. To simply say get "out" then you leave, and then he jacks you.

Sounds more like he wanted the dungeon to himself for OOC reasons, more than anything else - and thought he could sneak attack you and plug you into leaving.

Unfortunatley, I don't think instance of poor *** roleplaying is against the server-rules. Although as a code of Ethics, if he felt he was ruining your gameplay - he should of backed off.

As a side note, if someone doesn't want to PVP - unless they fully warrant the situation to call to PVP, I think you should respect that right. That goes for all classes, and all builds. Not just "Uuberbuilds" although if you've built your character specifically for trumping other classes, than yes I see your disappointment - and encourage you to rethink your class :).

I wonder if I am thinking of the same person here. I had a few encounters with him if it's who I am thinking one was in the low level goblin cave on my 2nd level I think they were level 6 I was wondering what he was doing down there until he asked for all my money. She is not the type to back down even though ooc I knew she could not win so I attacked first after he said it was my last chance. The next encounter was on my main and I have to admit I was kind of hoping he would give me a reason to attack which did not take long since he just out of the blue killed some poor old lady doing laundry in front of him. Fight ensued but it quickly turned into a match of who had the most healing potions so it kinda took the fun out of it and I gave up (forgot about the death penalty otherwise I might have continued using healing pots). Either way this person made it to the hostile on login for two of my characters if they continue that behavior all of the time it won't be long before they start having a hard time finding friends to adventure with in the higher level areas and the game starts to lose interest once you take away the social aspect. That might just be me though.

It depends on the player, really.

I prefer to RP out of PvP at all times (meaning, I try to avoid it as much as possible), but that's a quirk of mine. Sometimes that isn't an option, however. And even though I create characters who either avoid conflict or try to get out of it, even they can proactively tell me to attack first based on where the RP leads, though it doesn't happen very often.

I agree. The right should be respected.

However, you also need to be reminded, everyone mind you, that actions have consequences. Everything you do could come back to haunt you later, as I found out the hard way at times in Das1. There are many playing who have VERY long memories.
