Now it's just semantics.

No, the PP ruleset doesn't actually apply. Yes, the PvP Code of Honor does.

How would your character react, realistically, to being stolen from?

Someone steals the loot you worked hard to earn, you are requested (though not exactly required) to RP getting it back. They don't comply? You're entirely within your rights to kill them. Once. And then ask that they leave the zone for an hour. It's in the server rules.

*edit* Just saw Jeh's post. Listen to Jehannum.

That is precisely correct.

Dont try to make the rules complicated, they arent.

RP for good or non-chaotic characters may require asking for it back or finding some diplomatic means of solving the problem. it seems that people are constantly associating RP with trying to find a means of solving the problem through words and not pvp.

pvp is very much a form of rp. in real life there are several personas and situations which lead to shoot on sight or shoot and ask questions later type of situations.

depending on the alignment and character of the person having his loot stolen, id say attacking immediately and removing some limbs is just as likely a resolution as trying to ask nicely before taking any threatening action.

If you are intending to remove their limbs. I would recommend shouting something like.

HEY! Drop it!
Put that back. Nice and slow.
GIVE IT!

If that doesn't provoke a response within a reasonable time. 5-7 seconds to say What? Then if you're evil enough, killing is fair grounds.

Does paralyzing someone who steals and runs (so you can warn them to give it back) count as fair grounds towards assaulting them? i.e they can retaliate in an attempt to kill you.

personally I rekon its like somebody blocking your way on a night out, they are shouting in your face, demaning something or other, you don't know which way its gonna go, things might go badly if you let them get the adrenaline properly up, they haven't touched me, but i begin to question my safety - BAM!, pick you teeth up and F off.

...Are you okay?

*grin* i think so, maybe my analogy was a bit over the top - I mean, if the potential for violence is in your face, sometimes you are forced to act to protect yourself. So paralysing might make my character scared and he'll probably swing one at the paralyser.

I get your point, but it seems more like this:

Someone puts their wallet down, you pick it up and walk off, then they grab your arm and yell at you to give it back - do you punch him in the face, in fear of potential danger?

in a land where being a thief is a profession I rekon so. whether they are rping it well from the other side is a different matter. I suppose it depends on who you get - someone who will steal your stuff without rping it is most likely going to take your action as hostile to which they are allowed to respond.

Alright - thanks for the answer - so this means, if I paralyze a thief, and they attack me, it is them who generally initiated the hostility? j/k

doing that could cause my character to lose the chance to act first. if the person taking what i feel i earned considers me a threat because of what i say, then he may attack before i may the first move.

perhaps your alignment/persona, as do several others, it seems, justifies the use of words first, while my tends to swing away.

If the thief was higher level than me then generally I suppose I might just attack him right out - because I obviously worked harder than he would of had to, and if I warn him first, he has a chance to prepare for a fight, which is already in his favor due to level difference.

heh joke aside, I rekon so (this is all personal view by the way), they nicked yer stuff and at that point initiated a pretty standard response, then your following actions are justified under the pvp rules. As far as I know.

--adendum:
the lvl difference and stuff is seperate and as you chose to work it, i'm just commenting on the general thievery/hostile action element, there may be others who would see it differently.
