This is easily resolved by changing the password once in a while. I voted no to this, since I believe it is good to have new people around. I also think it is bad to have to spend three hours making a background for every character I want to play. And then maybe have to redo it if I do not like it afterall. And when one of these idiots gets on anyway after reading the rules, gets diciplined, banned or whatever, and then hands the passowrd out to all of his little griefer friends we end up back where what started this thread.

Some mornings it doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps..
I'm not sure what to vote either.
I feel that if there is to be a password, it should be noted somewhere on the forums, as stated earlier. An application process and passwords handed out to each player personally sounds like it would intimidate a lot of people from ever trying this server (i know i would be), as well as suck up a lot of time and effort from the admins, which seems to defeat the purpose of the whole idea in the first place.
Then again, with the password readily available on the forums, the griefers can just get it and log in, so it's debatable how much effect that would have. Still, maybe that's better than nothing and would require very little extra work.
I'll just wait until the alternatives become clear before i vote.
Oh - one question. If there was a password, would it be saved in the entry box just like the server name is, every time you connect? Or would you have to remember it and/or retype it on each login attempt? Because that would kind of suck.

I'm torn.
Dasaria has always survived without the need for applications and passwords. In her tenure of nearly five years of online existence not once, in my memory, has she ever required an application or password. It has been tough at spots with griefers and rule-breakers, but she got through it all.
Four years ago I can say with absolute certainty I would not have logged onto Dasaria if there was a password / app. process. I wouldn't have joined the Redboot Brigade, I wouldn't have fought Nergs in Dasar, I wouldn't have built Torinvhork Hall, I wouldn't have declared Martial Law.
I imagine there are other players out there that haven't found Dasaria yet, that could contribute immensely to the server. That is what will hurt us—not the occasional griefer or rule-breaker. Those people can be dealt with, somehow or someway.
I wouldn't be against a trial run to see what effect it'd have on the server, but I'm really torn on the issue. I just don't know. It's a tough spot to be in.

I said yes.
In the early days it will help.
Although, I agree with Grayle, I only found Das by accident.
Early on it may help the game, but I hope it would fall away once things have 'matured' a bit, and the griefers have found other places to play.
In the meantime though, I would prefer no passwords, but a bit more of Jeh waving his stick about and banning people by cdkey. I think that sends a strong message. If people dont heed it, then they are the ones that need to go...

I stopped reading after this post, because I really like CK's idea--or at least a modified version of it. Why not put the password in tiny text 3/4 of the way through a background thread in the World Background section titled "IMPORTANT- READ ME- You need this to understand the campaign"?baby1111007 wrote:ChikenKannon wrote:I like this idea. It's clever and would help clean it up. But maybe put the password in the middle. Just so that people wouldn't skim through the whole thing to just get the password.thedork wrote:Why not just put the password in nice tiny text right at the bottom of the server rules list? at least that way they've read it, oh and ofcourse don't forget to mention that by using that password, they are acknowledging that they have read and fully understand the server rules... And I know a lot of people would move on to another server than having to post an application and wait just to try it out.
And when one of these idiots gets on anyway after reading the rules, gets diciplined, banned or whatever, and then hands the passowrd out to all of his little griefer friends we end up back where what started this thread.
I am abstaining voting for now as things read on the forums and witnessed in game leave me unable to make an unbiased opinion.
Or, better yet, make a Welcome area on the server, where people have to use a dialogue to 'type in' the password. Set the convo to private, so nobody else can see. Use the idea stated in the paragraph before, and in the convo, say that you have to read said thread on the forums to understand the campaign at all. Then, once they click 'I accept' or something in the conversation, switch to the password dialogue.
OR, make it so there are multiple NPCs the player must talk to, and hidden in each of their conversations is a numbered letter of the password.
I feel stupid right now, so don't mind the many flaws of my reasoning.

I personally would say no to the password.
This time will pass. I have had exactly one incident which I felt strongly enough about to report.
That involved foul language used in tells when I had a youngster present.
With regards to the griefers, mught I suggest you simply
a) ignore them
b) Irrespective of RP stances..team and take them out.
c) RP the hell out of them ignoring any and ooc responses (possibly even going with "he babbles in demon tongues. He is possessed and must be cleansed...etc)
Passwording did I mention ...not in favor..excluding many in favor of few is never good.

Agreed.Rob wrote:No. The comparison is accurate and the tone appropriate. If you think I'm being too insensitive, then guess what? My opinion is to ride out the problems until DM client is out, then deal with all the troublemakers first in character, and if and after that doesn't help, through DM intervention. In the meantime, just accept the fact that this is still a game in progress and the DMs are severely limited in their interaction with the world.
Once two or three characters hit permadeath in a public occasion, things will quiet down.
On the other hand, they do add to the general feel of the game world - I'd say, for once, there is a proper appreciation of drow taking seed in Cear
If somebody is disrupting your game, log off, do something else, come back once you are cooled off. The easiest thing to do is to get wrapped up in imaginary conflicts to the extent where they blow up into a real life issues.

:s It's true that playing with offline friends online encourages stupidity... You usually find when they're apart they're quite capable of acting like good members of our community. It's all to do with peer pressure.baby1111007 wrote:Really, the three first banned were three "friends". I know because I personally explained the rules they were breaking...twice.
*shrugs* I don't run off crying to the DMs, never have, never will. The reason I said your post was inappropriate is because you're naming most of the community cry babies simply because they want to see change. This server is going through changes that are not only necessary for the benefit of all the players, but can't be avoided and any input from the community is good input.Rob wrote:No. The comparison is accurate and the tone appropriate. I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.
