When a character is entering the world is there a way to set the default to hostile instead of neutral to all players? Seems the PP DC of 30 would satisfy both the "pro" and "against" camps. Players could set other people they encounter to neutral as they see fit to prevent your next ranged auto attack hitting an innocent or a pet running amuck in town. It would just require players to pay a little more attention.

I imagine the confusion from that would cause a lot more problems than it would fix.
Draco - "Allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste."
Lorcann - "BACON!"

Well, I was just for the first time the victim of a pick pocket. They hung on me like a LEECH trying to pick pocket repeatedly and disappearing into the shadows. And yes, they managed to steal a 30, 000 g piece of ARMOR, out of my inventory.

Pick pocketing should have a time limit and a weight limit. I'm pretty livid about this scenario here. Him and his 'accomplice' managed to lead me on a wild goose chase which ran me over a stack of about 20 spike traps (absorbed by spell). I proceeded to slaughter them but that did little to quell my rage.

My inventory is now filled to the brim with bullets. In the words of Sean Connery to the would be pick pockets out there: "Suck it Trebek"

I will end you. I will send you screaming into the abyss, where you will sit in the great wall and think of me until oblivion. Your life and your generations, are mine.

Personally I hate thievery even worse than PvP. In PvP you have a 50% chance of winning or losing. With PP, if you don't have a very high spot skill, then you have no way of knowing you were stolen from. Once I even had a theif steal my main weapon after a fight WHILE I was on the ground still bleeding...how low can you get? Since it is clear the devs aren't going to change anything, I am officially taking the stand that if I *ever* catch a thief stealing from me I'm not going to report him, I'm going to kill him on the spot. Thats *my* rp reason for PvP.

Wow...I am near speechless. I dont know, seems to me that the Devs have their hands full lately dealing with getting new contact in, fixing broken scripts and bugs to make the game more stable, fixing other problems and complaints, PLUS dealing with griefers to make the game more enjoyable. Some things are just lower on the list than others. And Sir, it is already stated in the Server rules that if you CATCH a pickpocket you are within rights to PvP him.

So that you know, I can assure you that the Devs are discussing what can and should be done with the PP skill, but as they all....have lives and such, some things will take time to get implemented. The server is still BETA after all.

Devs have lives? You got to be joking? You mean they don't slave over Das 24/7?????

Forlorn, you have all the right to bash the theif's head in IF you catch him/her. If they are too high level for you, gather up a group of bystanders to help you. I'd recommend taking the screenshot of the log where you catch the thief in the act for your own protection and then go all out on the thief.

FYI, Vor is for hire to do the dirty work.

Totally OOC here: There are many ways to handle a Pick Pocket IC. There are some characters that don't need a reason more than extra coin to go after another and I am not just talking about sending another thief after another thief. If you approach the character with "an acceptable" alignment no matter the class they might be willing to try and chase down the pick pocket with or without proof.

If you come across as an honest character then another good aligned character would be willing to help you.

Approaching a evil aligned character might be a bit more dangerous but given the nature of the request, the reward offered, or just the mood at the time of the character they might be more than willing to take up the challenge with just the promise of a bit more gold without having proof that the Pick Pocket actually stole something.

I want to add, when you do catch a PP and kill him or her, it is the victor's right to demand that the player leave the area for 1 RL hour. If they do not leave the area and continue to pickpocket, then they are in violation of the server rules.

The issue I am seeing now is that many of us, my own character included, fail to detect the theft when it occurs. I am making a point of not letting anyone too close to me, and if I am bumped into, I RP immediately checking my packs and I will RP accusing whomever just bumped into me if I have an item missing.

Neradur, if they hung on you like a leech and repeatedly PPed you, they are breaking server rules. Report them.

I'm not pointing fingers at the devs, you're looking at the words the wrong way. The quote "Since the devs aren't going to do anything about it" was meant literally...not "Why won't the devs do anything about a problem because they're lazy or ignorant." This quote was in response to Wyvern's first post in this thread stating clearly that the devs "are not going to change PvP." I merely repeated his exact words and being blunt as they are...my own sentence reflected this bluntness too. Just wanted to clear that up.

Unfotunately, the best fix is to walk around with a lot of bullets in your inventory, scattered into as many slots as you can afford to lose to them. This will spread the chance of what can be stolen.

He didn't say nothing would be done, just that nothing would be done immediately. Trust me, they are very much aware of the issues, especially Wyv as he has to listen to me swear at the screen every time I get PPed. The issue becomes more of how to change PP that still makes it fair to those that enjoy RPing rogues. As stated in the quote, a size or weight check is one possibility.

Wyvern wrote:What would you like us to do? The rules are clear. If people are grief-pickpocketing, we need the details. I can't remember the last time I heard someone got banned for doing such.

If the majority of the playerbase feels strongly enough about the abuse of the skill, then let's hear some concrete suggestions to help with the situation. I'm sorry, but just saying "change it" isn't enough. I do sympathise somewhat, and I know it makes things awkward. But is it really worth getting upset over?
There is my first post in this thread. Where do I say "are not going to change PvP."?

The closest I have EVER come to stating something that is remotely close to what you quoted was that Dasaria will always be full PvP. That has nothing to do with this discussion. Rules can, and have, changed, when something demands it. There are PvP rules, as well as additional rules related to pick pocket and PvP.

If you are going to put words in my mouth, make sure you get them straight first.
It's just a game...

Escalating DCs for pickpocketing based on:

1: What you grab.
2: Hostility of the target.
3: How many times you've stolen from the target this server reset.
4: Nearby NPCs get a spot check as well, with the same modifiers. If they spot it, they kill you.

There. Problem solved. Next!

This was the post I was referring to. I made a mistake on saying it was the "first post" but I think it was his 3rd. In this quote he clearly says nothing will be done in the near future...as I have highlighted.

I really, really like #4 on that list. I would assume guards, for example, have high spot check. That's all they do is sit there and stare at people. Though that doesn't necessarily mean they notice things. However, at the minimum, the tracker and Captain outside the Mistyvale should.

I would like the DC to increase as well as you described in #3. The more you do it, the harder it gets. Increase the DC by 5 each attempt? I'd actually prefer 10, but you know, people will complain. Namely the thieves, though my rogue IS a thief, and probably wouldn't care either way.

That's the problem with most of my characters. Spot check fails.

Short of keeping my inventory open (and my 20 inch wide monitor is only so large folks), I don't know what else to do except for Wyv's bullet suggestion.

My personal vote is to completely ban the skill, period.
