Fists of Duraga : bugged or intende behavior ?

Post by pwdcrk »

hi all,
i noticed that fists of duraga once equipped if checked on the character sheet gives +1 divine damage ( and that is ok ) and +2 slashing damage ( shouldn't be bludgeoning ? )

so i was thinking that was a glicht of the UI and i tried punching an undead ... and it absorbed all the slashing damage :(

is intended that those deals slashing damage ? it could be reverted to bludgeoning ( a punch should beat not cut ;) ) ?

Items that are not weapons do not actually convey Metallic attributes. Adamantium gloves will not give a monk or fisticuffs PC the ability to pierce Adamantium damage reduction, unfortunately. It is a known bug.

As for the slashing damage, I believe it may be intended.

so is a useless item ?
i mean the good thing in those gloves was the fact they were adamantine ...

The gloves are of equal or comparable level to other +2 monk gloves. They're also very nice flavor items

anyway fixing them should be easy they can be improved with ki strike ( adamantine ) form monk feats so granting it should restore the DR bypass

maybe Wired can help us here :)

Well, Fists of Druaga have an Enhancement bonus of +2, meaning 2 AB and 2 damage, whereas most monk gloves have only AB, not the damage portion, so they're still somewhat strong for the level they're found at, compared to most gloves.

any way fists of duraga are +1 gloves with 2 slashing damage so they +1 AB and +2 damage that can be enough if adamantine DR bypass was in effect

the problem is that adamantine DR bypass is not in effect

the nice thing of this particular item is the DR bypass if you look for a nice glove you can simply take the whirwhing hand wraps that have +3 and greater elemental damage

Those quotes are contradictory. Anyway, even if gloves' materials worked correctly, that doesn't mean you'd be able to bypass every DR type, so you'll still be screwed against some enemies (unless you also include silver and cold iron gloves). You can still bypass adamantine DR, though... if you have 16 monk levels.

As for the damage type, a punch is bludgeoning, but I guess a glove/gauntlet intended for combat could have some cutting parts. Slashing could make sense in that case.

Maoon is right my fault i didn't recognize the +2 AB 'cause i was checking them outside with a char that suffers penalties on AB so i miscalculated but all the other problem persists :)

i was the first saying that it was strange to me that a punch has slashing damange instead of bludgeoning
as for the DR i know that adamantine can't bypass anything but since one of the cool things of adamantine is the fact that have that bypass quality and the +2 magical damage i would like that at least the DR bypass was granted to them as it should be from the design of the item :)
then if they change the dmg type from slashing to bludgeoning it makes more sense to me ( and also helps against undead )

as for the fact that you can have adamantine punches with 16 levels of monk i suppose that those gloves were intended for monks that have multi classed with something else and then they cannot reach lvl 16 monk to get ki strike adamantine ....

so please fix them i like them :P

I know, and I was replying to that. A gloveless punch is bludgeoning, but I can envision a metallic glove designed for combat with some cutting (i.e. slashing) parts. Maybe that's too Final Fantasy-ish, but I guess it's possible.

I mean, look at this pic and tell me if that's not partially slashing:

Since gloves are a piece of armor and not technically a weapon, I don't think having them as Adamantine quality would grant the +2 magic damage in addition to DR penetration. Other effects notwithstanding.

then could be double type as morningstar is ( i.e. bludgeoning / piercing ) in this case slashing/bludgeoning :)

Yeah, that's how it works. Natural fist damage is still bludgeoning, but you'll be doing +2 slashing on top. So if you hit for, say, 10 damage, 8 of those points will be bludgeoning.

no at the moment they don't work like this

i tested on an undead at faralier : if you punch them they absorb all the damage except the divine part of it since it is counted as slashing if it would be bludgeoning the undead ( that have weakness on that ) couldn't use his DR on that physical
part

Do you mean skeletons? Depending on the type (zombies, etc), they have different resistances.
