Post it here!
O here come the Dwarves of Stone
Their hammers flashed and their gold shields shone
All the way down the road of steel
They fought for authority and ground orcs to meal.
See how they stoutly climb the hills,
They put to shame human windmills
By harnessing power of the Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.
O here come the Elves of Wood
Standing where their fathers stood
Through the trees and silver leaves
All clad in green and mithril hoods.
See how they plant with grace
And ward off foes without a mace
Keeping true the spirit of the Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.
O here come the Gnomes of Trade
Taking pride in what others made
Through rain and sleet and snow and hail
Their merchant ways always prevail.
See how they appraise clients
With gems of rock and hammers of giants
Sprinkling goods all over the Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.
O here come the H'elves of Land
Half of elf and half of man
From some ancient historical source
Always wandering from their course.
See how they fit in and stand out
Settle down and wander about
Keeping random encounters on Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.
O here come the Lings of Trick
Could make you poor with but a stick
Smaller than gnome but smarter than mage
Clever enough to avoid guards' rage.
See how they keep the lowly well fed
And keep themselves from getting dead.
Balancing the wealth of Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.
O here come the H'orcs of Blood
Less than man and more than mud
Kill anything they can eat
'Cause really, everything's meat!
See how they bash the skulls of you
Most are trollish and dumb are few
Keeping wary the peoples of Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.
O here come the Men of New
Always appearing right off cue
They'll do what they must to get what they wish
Even if it means becoming a lich.
See how they dominate our lands,
Quite eager for blood on their hands,
Taking over the whole of Earth
And in their work harvesting mirth.

On a hill, in the blackest bleak night
Can be seen a faint white light.
by two hands, just two hands was it wrought
by two hands the cold stones were brought.
The hands that brought the stone
were the hands of a mortal alone.
The hands that wrought the light
were Rel's, to give the blind sight.
And so it is told, by warriors bold there still a stone doth lay
Where once stood a dial that fulfilled the vow of Rel's return each day.
and the rock is a tombstone and also to warn
with darkness there follows the dangerous morn.
So look you to your soul, to your life and it's weaving.
Are your words made of truth or are they deceiving?
Will wings grow from your shoulders or still disbelieving?
What will your two hands do?
I am quite novice at poetry.

No, no, you are not at all! That was GREAT! I loved the line "Are your words made of truth or are they deceiving?"
And the lyrics fit right into a musical tune! I could actually sing it, without it sounding like a cheese grater being scratched against a car's hood!
Silverwood and dementor's hood
Magical cloak of thief;
Wizards wand, Goblin's key,
To escape I would be lief;
Should the moonman come again;
Should the sun shine while there's rain;
I will once again exist
Else I'll wander in the mist.
I'm a Martian island on an Earthling sea;
Everywhere I go I just can't be me;
So I'll have to try to blend in with the land;
I'll grow some trees and shed some sand.
I'm a devil in heaven and an angel down below;
What I am in the middle I do not know;
But the fog will swallow me 'til flashlights shine
And right then the spotlight'll be mine.
So came the herald of my doom
I walked the path of precedent gloom
Walking up the stairs of Heck
While the banks of Stix overhead loomed.
I arrived to find the fire all gone;
Nothing was dead and nothing was wrong;
But I was out of place, foreign was my face
For down below I'd been long.
I'm a Martian island on an Earthling sea;
Everywhere I go I just can't be me;
So I'll have to try to blend in with the land
I'll grow some trees and shed some sand;
I'm a devil in heaven and an angel down below
What I am in the middle I do not know;
But the fog will swallow me 'til flashlights shine
And right then the spotlights'll be mine.
So the knights and the kings and the queens came to me
To observe what I heard and to hear what I see;
But I was still a new face; still underthanked
And yet my lack of hope doth not sank.
The witches and the wizards and the warlocks saw me
Planting a cat and feeding a tree;
Opposing what the world strived for;
But they turned away from me the bore.
But finally the commoner saw me;
He did not stay, he did not flee;
He treated me like one of his kin,
Proving the world ain't full of sin.
So I'm a Martian island on an Earthling sea;
Everywhere I go I just can't be me
So I'll have to try to blend in with the land, and
grow some trees, an' shed some sand.
I'm a devil in heaven and an angel down below;
What I am in the middle I do not know;
But the fog will swallow me 'til flashlights shine
And then . . . the spotlights'll be mine.
I'll add that this was written while I had a headache.

Pathfinding
The rains have come to the wood
Lost among the trees I seek direction
Sanctuary from the storm
A wolf appears as if to answer
Drawn by hunger or my fear I cannot say
The beast approaches slowly
Its eyes shining in the light of the moon
I sense no fear or challenge in its movements
Still and calm waiting for it to judge my intentions
The wolf draws near seeking my gloved hand
Slowly I draw away the glove and extend my fingers
The sign of friendship and trust satisfies the beast
Gently it pulls my palm with its jaws as if to guide
We move as one silent into the wood
A fire glows brightly ahead as the rains turn to mist
The wolf leaves me to move to the flames
A form kneels near the sanctuary
Fire cascades down her back
Ivory skin lit by the fire and the light of the night
Bare to the wood and to the wolf
Shame fills me as I bow my head hiding her
Peace washes it away though I cannot know the source
Destiny and the wild have brought me here
Faith is all that I possess
She speaks and the voice is no stranger to me
Dreams remembered assure me as I bow now in reverence
Her hand raises my head and I see her eyes
My guide has come and the path is plain
The rains have come to the wood
Lost among the trees I seek direction

Heh, why not. I was going to post this and others when I would've had another character. A storyteller type of bard. But I'm gonna stick to just this one character, it seems.
The text in question relates to the event described in the timeline where some Kingseeker Knights instigate a rebellion and are subsequently crushed.
I watched them, and I cried
As a poet gazes upon the moonlit sky.
The knights, all readied
As everyone around them fled, unleased a cry.
I watched them, and I cried
"To battle, death and glory!"
Every last one, cut down and died.
Dead, but immortal in a story.
I watched them, and I cried
As those "loyal" fled, all but those knights.
Stood still as waves of soldiers tried
To break the men, fighting for their rights.
I watched them, and I cried
As the banner of the 'seeker knights
Waved proudly, so renowned.
Defiant to the last, until the evening lights.
I watched them, and I cried
As finally they broke and were cut down.
I watched them all, with pride
As not one was chained, dieing for the crown.

Hero of glory, tell your story
Sheath and clean your blade
Patriotism over Varanitism
Will undeniably fade,
O! Hero of old, step in from the cold
Disguise your elder ways
You are man from way back when
Before these guards' child days.
The stuggling times are through and done
The battle was fought and won
The moon has crossed the western road
And up hast come the sun.
Blades and books and picks and tomes,
Used to be a part of our homes,
Now we're just the common eyes
Riding on Time while she flies.
Em'pi're over kingdom
Darkness over light
The Varanites have fought and won
The Dasarian Home Fight.
Hero of new is villain of old and shall forever be,
Unless a new face is brought and there's a new way to see!
Injustice politics corruption and rot,
Those are the traits of this lot,
But the patriots shan't rise again,
For the heroes of old are way back when . . .

Kabam, kaboom
Alakazoom!
Yellow sparks and bangs!
Sprinkle the powder of cat chowder,
To grow vampiric fangs!
Magework of the empire
The science of yesterday
It was potions words and flicks of wands
Magical, I daresay
Dwarven beard and elven helm,
Enchanted for another realm
Somatic and verbal charge
To shrink the giants and hobbits enlarge
A flick of the wand and red sparks fly out
Mirror images swarm about
Displacement charms and ghostly binds
Are fine 'til the empire finds
That magic can exceed what's thought
And evil mages are long after caught,
Then it will be promptly blasphemous
Magic will be our nem'esis.
((bah, this is no good at all, I just needed to write SOMETHING about magic . . .))
edit- by the way thanks, Matt

It would seem, my dear friend,
That I was never found
That I hid and lied and lived
In that dense snow mound
In that pile of clouds I slept
And Gods gave me strength
To fly where the Kingdom wept
And the Tyrant took his reign
And Gods gave me strength to hide
And never find myself
And my place will never be taken
By man, dwarf, or elf.
It would seem, my dear friend,
That I was ever sound
That I did what I had to to live
In that heaven I found
In that pile of snow I dreamed
And hark! the angel voice
That told me whither are the deemed
Peoples without choice
And that angel inspired me to ride
On a mount of ill
The mount I rode of the land that died
Ever running still...
That I was never found
That I hid and lied and lived
In that dense snow mound
In that pile of clouds I slept
And Gods gave me strength

A Varanite Children's Poem
We are Varanite
Strong and Proud
Our Battlecry Long and Loud
A Million Men with Marching Feet
Crimson Banner , Sparkling Gold
The Trumpet Sound of Rebel's Beat
A Story told by Citizen's Old
Pure of Faith, With Righteous Might
For the "God-King Emperor", as is Right
Take up the banner of Fallen Man
Show the enemy his last Stand
For None May Crush our Noble Soul
Lochwar Blessed us, Canas First
Undaunted from our Fervent Goal
Never quenched our Battle Thirst
We are Varanite,
Strong and Proud
Glory to the Empire, Say it Loud.

Raeflyn wrote:The Laird of Aucklorn Mill
Amidst a storm, cold and gray,
Beneath a sky that ‘guised the day,
Upon crested hill yon lilies sway,
Stood boldly be, Sir Jack McKay,
_____The laird of Aucklorn Mill;
In the little light, streaming there,
Ten warriors brave both good and fair,
Stood behind him without err,
Their duty clear and bound to share,
_____To the laird of Aucklorn Mill;
On knotted plains the host did wait,
A mass of steel, sword and plate,
And though they stood, their hearts irate,
Resigned they be to destined fate,
_____With the laird of Aucklorn Mill;
Atop the tuft’d ridge they form’d,
Down the tousled grass they storm’d!
Thro’ the muddy flats they swarm’d,
Dashed against the host forlorn’d,
_____With the laird of Aucklorn Mill;
The blood of friend and blood of foe,
Mingled in the scene below,
One would watch and wonder so,
Where do these souls of good men go?
_____With the laird of Aucklorn Mill;
And with the dawning of the day,
The sun did meet a bloodied fray,
Broken in the field they lay,
Ten brave men and Sir Jack McKay,
_____The laird of Aucklorn Mill;
In good kept hearts of Dasarian men,
‘Ere lie in remembrance the bloody ten,
When the moon is full and the sun has been,
Still they ride upon the glen,
_____With the laird of Aucklorn Mill.

Down the glen on a cold sown morn’
Without’un brogue nae avoidin’ the mire in lorn
Through treacherous bogs and gloomy fog
Yonder calls Aucklorn to us
On to the ashy hamlet, where the sun still shines
Where the mill hasn’t slackened, neither yet have I
On to the tiny hamlet, a marching in twine
Where harp winds sing divine
Soft light breaks trough morning-borne clouds
They yielding no hope day’ll be fair
Winter on its way, so the folk mouths
Their echoes singin’ in nigh braes
On to the ashy hamlet, where the sun still shines
Where rosemary, sage and thyme the feast bedight
On to the tiny hamlet, a marching in twine
