Greater Magic Bags

I understand that GMB were removed from the game due to lag. Since the server is quite stable now, I was wondering if there might be a way to re-introduce these on a limited basis for use by crafters.

Here's my thoughts: Make the GMBs a craftable item (i.e., no drops) and also an item that can ONLY be used by the one who crafted it. That is, you gotta be able to craft and you can only make it for your own use. It would not be useable by anyone else.

It would really help crafters to be able to store supplies in a GMB rather than loose in inventory.

Why only for the people who crafted it? Aside from trying to strengthen some sort of crafter monopoly?

There's a crafter monopoly?

Hell if I know. Just trying to think of a reason why someone would ask for them to be bind-on-crafting.

What skill do you propose these crafters use to make the bags? What if I only craft weapons or alchemy or some other skill and can't make them? Does that mean I don't deserve to get one because I'm not devoted enough to put puts into all the crafting skills? What if it doesn't fit my character to take points in that crafting skill?

I'm sure other people have plenty of stuff to carry around. What about traders or people that carry lots of clothes for social reasons?

Personally, I think binding GMBs for those that crafted them is silly. The components could be rare making the possibility for owning them open to everyone, but they would need to pay the proper market price for it.

I am trying to find a way to have GMBs back without overloading the server. A crafter needs such an item to organizae ingredients. There is noplace else to put anything except inventory.

If it were possible, I would love for everyone to have GMBs. But apparently it adds lag to the server, or at least that's what I understand.

Anyway, I am not trying to create any sort of monopoly. Sheesh, take a chill. Just making a suggestion on how to reintroduce GMBs for crafters without a massive rush by every character to own one.

Guess it was a bad idea. Feel free to close this thread.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to come off as offensive.

No the GMB weren't removed because of lag. They were removed because people could use them to crash the server.

I remember reading that the bags were indeed bugged but I think it was already fixed in one of the games updates, wasn't it?

I think a bank vault, especially one shared between all characters in an account would serve the same purpose as a GMB, minus the weight reduction while adventuring, for crafters to use for supplies. Still, it would be sweet to have GMB, and simplify organizing stuff.

How were they misused to crash the server? Would it be possible to just ban those who do such an activity?

There was a very simple action that would crash the server. And how would you find out who did it?

Yes, the bags server crashing bug was fixed in 1.04 or 1.05 I don't remember which one, but it was specifically listed.

We don't have an portable holes implemented... how did it crash the serv... You guys need to get up to date on these rules -> It's OK to put a bag of holding into another bag of holding in 3.5. 8)
