1500 crowns for a Bull Str potion >.<

Haven't seen a topic on this so here goes. Today I picked up the Brew Potion feat and thought I'd give it a whirl. Bought a magic potion bottle at the apothecary for 20crowns ( noticed that a Bulls Strength potion was around 255ish). Cast Bulls Strength on the bottle *inserts vampiric sucking sound* and minus 1500 crowns. What just happened. :shock:

The elf clerk in there just laughed at me and shook her beakers. :?

I then made a regular Cure Light potion for 300crowns. Isnt this a bit excessive?

I am curious if there is a way builders can tweak the cost required of certain Item Creation feats. Ill browse the toolset as well as browse NWN2 Vault.

If not...can someone De-Level me ( Friar Barimus ) to level 2 for a wasted / useless feat :cry:

Yes, a good suggestion.

My char Caliliad, is a priest. And the feat brew potion is pretty useless. Not that it does not work properly. But it seems a bit strange that it is much much more expensive to brew a potion than it is to buy them at the stores.. :(
Brew potion should have a description saying something like:

"With this feat you will be able to spend much more gold acquiring potions of spells up to and including level 3. You can from now on consider yourself a lucky bastard!"

:D

I was browsing for information and came across this (granted its NWN1)

http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic ... pic=437401

I was comparing it to the actual script in the NWN2 Toolset and the name is the same

x2_inc_craft

To view for yourself Open up the toolset choose File > Open Conversation /Script then use the filter.

However the line descriptions as the one user stated are not the same as the NWN2 code...

I am currently looking for the correct lines to modify.

EDIT FOUND IT.

Lines 637 -641

// XP/GP Cost Calculation
// -------------------------------------------------------------------------
int nCost = CIGetCraftGPCost(nLevel, X2_CI_BREWPOTION_COSTMODIFIER);
// float nExperienceCost = 0.04 * nCost; // xp = 1/25 of gp value
int nGoldCost = nCost ;

THe underlined portion is where you would change to

int nGoldCost = nCost;
to
int nGoldCost = nCost/10;//10% of nCost

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Thus a Bull Strength potion would = 150 crowns to make vs 1500 crowns
So a net total of 170 crowns if you add in the 20 crown magic bottle.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I think this is feasable for a Player spending a feat on it and the current pricing scheme of the module.

Would have to have a DM / Builder evaluate this idea though first and foremost. I would be happy to test it out with a DM just let me know time and place :D

PS This alteration can be applied to Wands and Scribe Scroll as well.

Do remember that you can make potions that cannot be bought. I'm not saying the prices aren't in excess, but... well. I'd imagine potions of Death Ward would sell for quite a sum. (If you can make potions of Death Ward, anyway)

It may not be possible because the Feat indicates 3rd level spell and lower (Death Ward is indicated as a 4th level spell),

There is this line of code in the x2_inc_craft file

const int X2_CI_BREWPOTION_MAXLEVEL = 3;

We could change that 3 into a 9 and get crazy:p

Im looking into which spells can be applied into potions it revolves altering the

des_crft_spells.2da file.

and the above segment of code I posted above.

If you want to see for yourself open up the toolset and choose

View > 2DA files > des_crft_spells

0 = true = It can be applied
1 = false = It cannot be applied

"Yes I will have 1 Meteor Swarm Potion please"

-Would you like that Super Sized?

What was the caster level of the bull's strength potion you made?

At the current prices, Brew Potion is completely useless. I unfortunately took this feat on my dedicated crafter, much to my dismay. It would be prudent for the world builders to consider adjusting the prices for crafting potions so that they are a feasible part of the game.

BTW, Death Ward CAN be put into a wand. Anyone need one? PM me in game. They sell for about 25k gold.

I have Brew Potion & Scribe Scroll (both totally useless)

68gp to make a scroll of light. You can buy it for 2gp.

Even at 10% that doesn't make sense.

Atleast with scrolls later on you MIGHT be able to get it back... but the market for 10k+ gp scrolls is gonna be pretty damn small.

I think trying to fix the equations to be how they are supposed to be (and then fixed the NPCs so they don't sell them at a loss) would be the best way to do it.

Potion Cost (in D&D3.5)
Spell level x Caster level x 50 + 1/2 base potion cost

Bull's Strength -> 2 x 3 x 50 = 300gp to buy from a store

Brewing is 1/2 gp & 1/25th xp:
150gp + 12xp

Scroll Cost (in D&D3.5)
Spell level x Caster level x 25 + 1/2 base scroll cost

Light -> 1/2 (0 level spells count as 1/2) x 1 x 25 = 12.5 gp to buy from the store

Scribing is 1/2 gp + 1/25th xp:
6.25gp + 1xp (or fractional if DM prefers)

Scribe scrolls is most useful for wizards, since they get it for free. They can scribe scrolls to stockpile for later use (some spells don't matter what caster level you have - Breach spells come to mind) or for giving to apprentices/trading to other wizards to fill up their spellbook.

If the scrolls didn't cost 300x what you can buy them for to make...

At 5th level spells and up I figure there will be some scribing to trade spells amongst wizards but those scrolls are going to cost a crapload of money.

5 x 9 x 25 = 1,125 gp for a 5th level scroll -> To BUY from a store.

562.5 to scribe it.
potions are x2.

2,250 to buy
1,125 to brew. Notice that I should be able to brew a 5th level (I know you can't brew that high, but the price is relevant) spell at LOWER cost then it takes right now to brew a 2nd level one.
