Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
I did like how the DS engine would load areas in the back ground, so you never got stuck at a loading screen and how the more you used a skill the more it would develop, it was an interesting shift away from merely selecting your skills. It would be insteresting if they mixed it with D&D, so hide, disable device etc was grown by usage rather than points at levels.

Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
The main thing I didn't like about Dungeon Siege was that it was all based on damage. Nature Magic had a hard time leveling because it did low amounts of damage, and since it fell behind in levels it couldn't do enough damage to level later. Healing didn't level it very quickly.
But it was fun, I'll give it that.

Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
i think Nature damage had given the highest damage i've ever seen before around 1400-1900 damage and the spell is the root tree where if there is a big monster, the root will come from the earth to crumble it from bottom to top. but it is very slow casting, where lightning combat magic cast twice in the time of the root spell. whilst the melee dual weapon damage is around 150-300damage but very fast, stunning sometimes and suck a lot of hp, good for 1v1 against boss. two one handed weapon maul highest around 200-600 damage for AOE small mobs.some staff and set items will increase your nature damage around 40%-60% depending on sets.but must go through a bit hard work working back and forth to find it based on lvls and place u are in.also there are some skills that increase the damage depending on your mastery. its the matter that they didnt have like Vordan hero creator to test it so we must grind our way to see if anything goes exactly as we planned. combat magic deals highest 400-800 damage depending on the lightning but fireball or fire based damage does not help much as it is slow casting and hits weakly on monsters.
if we make a defender one weapon mace with full set "i dont remember what set but it has 8 items" which regenerates our life and very resilient to damage magical and physical, we can fight the boss at the end of the game alone without our companion.also without healing potion and healing spells.but he hits weakly so it will take some time to bring the boss down.
this is for normal difficulty, i dont really know about harder difficulty like hardcore in Das.
it is still fun indeed

Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
I enjoyed Dungeon Siege 2 a lot more then Dungeon Siege 1 mostly because of the way they dropped the leveling system from the first game and adopted a more traditional system like those used in most games. Also the story and quests were a lot better then the first although they were lacking and few and far between. If the game play stays pretty much the same and Obsidian does what it does best (Story and character development), do not bet me started on the other aspects... The game should turn out quite nicely.

What's up with the Obsidian hate? I doubt many of you have even played an Obsidian game besides NWN2 (I'll admit that I haven't). Keep in mind that a lot of the problems of NWN2 were leftover from NWN1 (yes, even transition crashes, they were much more prevalent in NWN2 simply because transition loading times were longer). Many people have stated that Mask of the Betrayer was the best of the NWN campaigns. Mind you, Obsidian is a fairly new developer with just a few games under its belt.Depheant wrote:That's a real shame. Another one they'll ruin.
But hey. I haven't played Dungeon Siege 3 yet, so I suppose I shouldn't be making blind assumptions without knowing anything about the game, eh?

Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
Alot of bugs that were fixed in NWN1 came back in NWN2, its like they started with the original coding again....
Knights of the old republic 2 was fairly good, not as good as the original but what is.

I'm pretty sure is made of of mostly people from Black Isle Studios and a few of the games they made include: Baldurs Gate 1 - 2, Fallout 1 - 2, Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale. I also hear they got their hands on Fallout 3 Las Vegas.

Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
A good chunk of code in NWN2 is from NWN1, and many of the issues were inbuilt with the way both parties tried to implement their ideas. Not to say it was poorly done, as it is a lot of work to make a game.
Yes, Obsidian may have made many mistakes in their coding, and I personally find many of their coding practices silly, sloppy and poor, but they have managed to make a game that we enjoy, that doesn't break down to the point of not starting up again, and that allows us to do a lot of things that you can't do in other games. Many many people like the campaigns as well (Myself included, I've completed all three and felt they were money well spent). So I don't think (Other then perhaps bad coding practices) that Obsidian will mess up a game, but if you think they will don't buy dungeon siege 3

Re: Obsidian To Develop Dungeon Siege III
Both NWN2 and KoToR2 suffered from the same problems: rushed release with extensive bugs at release that made the games practically unplayable and endings to the single player campaign that were clearly rushed and tacted on (KoToR2 moreso than NWN2). While the normal defense is that they got rushed out by the publisher over Obsidian's protests and that many of the bugs were inherited from the engine (you'll note that the KoToR and NWN franchises are extensively related mechanically and engine wise), it still burned a lot of people because these games were released back to back and were their first two releases. Looking at reviews of their newest release "Alpha Protocol"reveals some of the same things, so people's fears are understandable.
That said, their support for NWN2 has gone above and beyond, and I think they'll do fine with Dungeon Siege. The only thing that will change my mind is if they completely mess up Fallout: New Vegas, but I have high hopes for that title considering that they have some of the original staff that made Fallout and Fallout 2, so it's a labor of love for them.
