yeah the wii has the potential to be huge becuase it will appeal to non-gamers too.
I still like the position the 360 is in though mostly because its not ridiculously over priced like the PS3

I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Ridiculously over priced!? I think not! Look at the hardware, man. The Cell Broadband Engine, and a Blu-ray player! A stand-alone Blu-ray player is $1000 USD. It costs Sony $800-$840 for every PS3 made, they have to make a profit somehow. Let's not forget that HD-DVD add-on for the 360 is $200 (and no HDMI outputs), and $100 for the Wi-Fi adapter. And no Metal Gear!broncoblitz wrote:I still like the position the 360 is in though mostly because its not ridiculously over priced like the PS3
That's just my PS3 defense statement, no offense intended towards anyone.
As for the Wii, it looks fun. Not an ideal computer entertainment system like the PS3 and 360, but the games will be great. I wanna play Zelda, but I have to wait for the GameCube release!

It is overpriced because they are taking a risk going with one of the newest most expensive technologies, while Xbox 360 is taking the cheaper newer one.superpoweredchimp wrote:Ridiculously over priced!? My main problem with the PS3 is that Sony believes that THEY are the ones getting screwed over the most. Sure they lose money because they are selling it for less than it's actual worth. But that doesn't change the fact that I could buy a stripped Xbox 360 and a Wii for roughly the same price.
That just makes me go OW! WHY SONY! WHY!?
The largest wound will come from those you considered friends.

The problem is even at the price they still lose over 300 dollars on each ps3 they sell, so technically it is a deal but, when the other options are so much cheaper its hard to justify it.

If you have an HD-tv and a PS3 there's no reason not to buy blueray media. Besides, another 40 gigs (dual layer bd-rom) for the devs to work with is never wrong.NortherlyNanook wrote:I still don't see why Blu-ray is all that great. It just isolates Sony. It isn't the "future."
Also, I doubt that the WII will appeal to non-gamers except for some niche games no more complicated than "point and click on things on the screen". Games that draw non-gamers are party games, like eye-toy, Guitar Hero, DDR, Singstar... More "physical" stuff. My sister, mother or grandmother will not sit down and play Zelda TP, Super Mario Galaxy or Red Steel.
Lanky, you know very well that the PS3 isn't a computer. It's a tried and tired argument. A PC is no replacement for a console.
Personaly, I'll buy the PS3 for the games. Resistance has proven itself to be one of the best launch titles this gen, Motorstorm seems to be a great arcade racer and there are many, many more comming (DMC4, MGS4, FFXIII to name a few).
All the PS3 needs now for a sure win is a FF7 remake worth it's name. No matter what you may think of that idea, it'll throw sales through the roof.
Moreover, I advise that Carthage must be destroyed.
I'm getting a Wii.
Who cares about blue-ray? What's that going to do for me, seriously. Final Fantasy can finally be a 50 hour long movie with no need for gameplay at all - the final evolution. I'll wait for it to come out in theaters.
I can not wait, I really can not wait, to see what sort of "screw you out of every penny" job Sony pulls on the people foolish enough to but their system. They look at customers the same way a wolf looks at a sheep. I hope you like buying your games one car/team/item at a time. You know it's coming.

Funny thing, that. I read an article today about Sony's business model for the PS3...they're taking a $300 loss per system. If Sony gets $10 per game that consumers buy, then they "only" need to sell 30 games per consumer to break even. I can't think of 30 games I'd be interested in playing for the PS2, much less 30 I'd be willing to pay full price for.Jay Four wrote:I'm getting a Wii.

It's no wonder they want to tank the used games market.
Edit:
The thing I like about the Wii is it's innovative. It's not trying to beat the PS3 or the 360. I mean, I'm sorry, but I can't imagine any game for the PS3 that's will be as cool in execution as Wii Boxing or Excite Truck. Yeah, the motion controller is a gimmick, but it's a gimmick that's unique and works very well when used correctly.
