"I have already told you, pawns don't capture moving straight forward." The sharp dressed man hove a sigh:
"Replay that move, come on, moron."
The half-orc gaved an oblique glance to him, replying abruptly:
"Me name Krugh."
Another thin man, with a well-seasoned look, was sitting a few steps far away from the two over the chessboard. He was having a bowl of soup. He stared at the two players for long, holding a spoon with two fingers. Raised his browns, starting to tap his lips with the piece of cutlery:
"Shall we stop this noise, friends? It is late at night. The kid is sleeping, Tess' shift is almost over."
"Oh yes...", added a young boy seated next to him; he wasn't past his twenties, with raven-black hair:
"I would really use to go tell it to Tess, and give her a very warm goodnight kiss", he chuckled.
"Daydreamer." Tess' voice echoed, jeering, from outside the farmstead where the four men were spending their time. Beautiful Tess, even the sound of her voice was hitting the bell of perfection.
"Alright lad. Go tell our beautiful swan that her shift is over. Take her place." said the elder man leaving the soup on the table:
"Hey Tess," asking loud
"how the night sky is tonight?"
No answer this time.
"
Tess?" repeated, motioning the younger lad to take a peek outside the farmstead, where the girl was waiting for the end of her shift.
They boy approached the doorway, giving ear to the quiet sounds of the night. A low bump. Something rolling on the wooden floor of the porch.
"Miss... Tess?" asked he too. The chess players moved a glance to the doorway as well. A small wooden carving was rolling inside the room. Dull black wood, shaped into the form of a human person. Definitely creepy.
The lad kneeled to grab the black figurine, eyeng Tess a few steps behind it next to the doorway.
Beautiful Tess. Her eyes were empty. Her fine dress untouched, but her bones seemed literally to had tried escape from her own body.
"
Are... You fine?" asked the boy, with his breath broken.
A painful moan was the only given answer:
Darkness
The undead crawled suddenly into the farmstead, grabbing the young man. Startled and helpless his sorrow lasted no longer than a couple of seconds. He dropped dead immediately, slained by the undead woman.
Krugh got up first, grasping the greataxe tied to his large shoulders. Fearless he charged the abomination. With a perfect blow he ripped off one arm of the undead, yet Tess didn't stop her march toward him. A loud growl, the half orc and the zombie were fighting.
The sharp dressed man widened his eyes. His hands were tremblig. He slowly tried to recall a bolt spell from his memory, but his concentration got immediately broken. Freaking out he ran out of the farmstead. The half orc yelling angrily at him; before to fall. The horror of that day still echoes haunting the sorcerer's dreams.
But Tess' feast got brusquely interrupted by a sudden flash of divine light. The undead woman fell into the ground becoming immediately dust. Holding a scroll, the thin and seasoned man, was the only one standing in the room. Except for a tall silhouette in the darkness, under the porch.
"You, devil!" the man yelled:
"what have you done to us?", with his heart beating frantically.
No answer came from the dark shadow. Its eyes were scanning the inside of the farmstead.
"I am leaving ok?" he added
"We are... Were just poor people. Looking for some crowns"
"I use a different definition for your kind, Morrakin. Late-bloomers... Way more useful undead, rather than alive." said the shadow with a soft voice. The doorway was now free. The man moved his lips, without a sound. Unsure.
"Leave." the shadow said.
Morrakin raised his hands, moving fast toward the door. Before to disappear a brief shimmer of lunar light reflected on something tied to his belt.
The dark silhouette moved a few steps inside the farmstead, eyeing the surroundings. Istinctively, it got a glimpse of the way behind. Silence. Nobody was there.
Except for Morrakin, who appeared from the shadows. His hunting knife running throught the dark silhouette, piercing its heart flatly.
Or not? There was nothing in front of Morrakin, whom was feeling now helpless and confused. Then the dark silhouette was there again, next to him, looking for something from a belt pouch. Some words started to sound in the air.
"Dengan ketakutan batin anda..."
The man tried to slash with his knife the figure, again it disappeared under his strike.
"...Saya mengambil hidup anda."
Another desperate try, yet another miss:
"Tricky witch! Show yourself!" he yelled.
The figure smirked while in a corner of the room. Between her hands a glaring sphere of light. She was looking at it intensely.
"There you are, wench" said the man with a laughter
"nobody will find you, after I am done with you". Morrakin rushed in her direction.
She raised one brown, something amused her in the man's sentence; her reply didn't wait longer:
"In fact... For my next trick I'll make you disappear.", with an impish grin on her face, the sphere between her hands suddenly disappeared. Morrakin felt his heart skipping a beat.
The mage was not there anymore. Neither the farmstead, nor his bowl of soup. Nor the spoon. There was just darkness. He looked at his hands; they were getting
eaten by his own shadow, growing bigger and bigger. He was swiftly dissolving into... The void. A scream, and then he became its own reflection; and then nothing at all. Nothing.
The dark silhoutte walked finally away from the dark corner of the room, looking at the terrified expression on Morrakin's face. Dead.
She moved some steps to the Jyhana's black figurine, the carving made of black wood, which was useless anymore. Never the less, she took it from the ground, before going through a closed door of the farmstead. To lockpick it was surprisingly easy.
In front of her eyes there was a young kid, blindfolded, and quite scared. She kneeled next to him with a calm whisper:
"shhh, it is over. I mean no harm."
The boy was untied and freed from the bandage, allowing him to appreciate his rescuer's visage. A beautiful woman with amber-colored eyes appeared to him. Was she old? Her hair was white, although her face looked young and warm.
Behind her, through the open door of the farmstead the sun was starting to rise.
"We will need to find another exit, alright? Perhaps that window behind you will do, with the help of my spells." she said to him.
The kid nodded once, with disclosed lips full of surprise.
She was beautiful, with all that light around her.
Light.
