Jezel turned back to Gormok, and told him to make a thrusting attack, followed by an attempt at taking her head, making sure he understood it was a simulated attack. She noticed the Orcs disappointment at not having a spar at full speed, and Jezel assured him that once she they were finished with the demonstration, they would go at it full speed, to show the youngsters what it was to actually fight an experienced opponent.

As Gormok prepared to thrust Jezel instructed the audience: IF YOUR OPPONENT ATTEMPTS A THRUST ATTACK, DON'T JUST STAND THERE WAITING FOR IT. YOU STEP BACK, PLACE YOUR SHIELD HALFWAY BETWEEN YOUR BODY AND FULL ARM EXTENSION, AND WHEN HE THRUSTS YOU BEGIN BRINGING THE SHIELD BACK TO YOUR BODY, SLOWLY WHILE STEPPING BACK A COUPLE OF PACES, WHEN THE POINT HITS YOUR SHIELD,DON'T STOP MOVING IT TOWARDS YOUR BODY. MOVING YOUR BODY AND YOUR SHIELD WILL ABSORB THE ENERGY OF THE THRUST, AND IF HE ISN'T EXPECTING IT OR BUTS TO MUCH POWER INTO IT, IT MAY BRING HIM OFF BALANCE TOWARDS YOUR BLADE, WHEN HIS ARMS ARE AT THEIR FULLEST EXTENTION, YOU TURN THE SHIELD, SLIDING IT PAST HIS BLADE,HOOKING THE BLADE WITH THE CORNER OF THE SHIELD, CONTINUE TURNING TILL HE IS PULLED OFF BALANCE, AND THEN STRIKE FOR FOR THE NECK, OR THE ARM PIT.

Jezels words were followed by the actions she had just described, and again she was able to tap the orc on the side just below the shoulder with the flat of her blade. They both quickly recovered and Gormok, raised his halberd as if to split, jezel down the middle. He moved so guickly that Jezel had no time to explain what she was going to do and had to just react.

As Gormok swung down, Jezel jumped forward, coming down on one knee while lifting the shield straight up to catch the thick wooden pole on it's top edge, while thrusting the borrowed broad sword up at an angle that would have if she had truly been trying to kill, run up through Gormoks body just below the rib cage, through the heart and lungs, and exiting through the shoulder where it joins the neck.As this was a simple demonstration, she aimed to bring the sword up just in front of his body, stopping the tip before it cut his throat.

The force of Gormoks blow forced Jezels shield down, and it impacted the top of her left knee, causing her to wince with pain, even through the over lapping metal plates that allowed her armor accommodate her bending the knee.

She stayed on one knee a few moments longer than necessary, to make sure the other knee wasn't damaged, when she did finally regain her feet, it was with a grimace, she stood flexing her knee, and gingerly putting weight on her left foot, hoping she wouldn't collapse.

letting out a sigh of relief when she was able to stand with out difficulty, she looked at the orc, who had an expression of concern and what... shame?.. embarrassment?... maybe even a little fear. Jezel smiled ruefully, and told him he had nothing to be concerned about, she was fine, and would be able to continue sparring. She had to laugh a little when she saw the smile on his face and the sparkle in his eye, at the promise of a good fight.

Jez returned the borrowed sword to it's owner saying that they would all meet her at the smithies later first thing after the noon meal, and she would inspect their weapons and armor to determine what needed to be fixed, and what needed to be replaced.

She picked up her own sword and buckled it back in place, once she adjusted it around her waist, she turned back to her opponent, drew the sword, and held it up before her, explaining to Gormok that the blade was enchanted so she would try her best not to actually touch him with it.

"Now my friend... let's dance!"

Jezel stepped forward. swing Dark Whispers back and forth a few times to reacquaint herself with the balance, and difference in weight, from the much heavier broadsword she had been using for the demonstration.

Gormok didn't under stand Jezels words..why did she want to dance? he thought they were here to fight. besides Gormok had no idea how to dance, so he asked in his slow methodical voice, with the thick orcish accent.

Jezel chuckled at the question, and was quick to explain her meaning " you're right my friend we are here to fight, but a duel is much like a dance.. there is an ebb and flow,to the battle, that could easily be put to music.

Jezel waited as Gormok tried to process this concept, and Jezel decided to show him, by asking Malan, one of her students who carried a lute on his back.

" Malan take up your lute, and play a tune that flows with our movements so that if it' replayed people see a battle in their minds.

turning back to Gormok she saluted him with her sword and took up a defensive stance waiting for Gormok to begin.

Sar'Lenis watched Elvina walk away, she was obviously upset, because she was talking to herself, and waving her hands in the air. She looked towards Toran, with wide mischievious grin.

"good she's going to let us go with her"

Toran stared back with a look of amazement. How could Sar'Lenis be so sure the white haired commander would give in and allow them to join with her? From hr words, and tone. It seemed more likely she would have them thrown into the cells or forcibly put out of the fort.

"How can you be so sure young one?"

Pointing at Elvina's back "because she always act's like that when she has made a decision she feels she didn't want to make"

With that statement, Sar'lenis turned on her heel waved good bye to Toran saying she would meet him back here in three hours, and set of to find Elvina's tent, and wait for the wrath of her red headed sister to descend upon her head.

Sar'lenis found her destination in quick order. she stopped a few paces away, and studied the layout of the area. There was one large three poled tent with two sentries outside the flap. close beside it was a smaller tent that would hold two or three people in some comfort. The opening to the second tent was turned to face the larger thus the sentries on duty out side the command tent could also see anyone trying to enter Elvina's personal tent.

The diminutive half elf rogue, was in a good mood so she decided have some fun with the sentries. She sneaked around behind the tents, taking her time and ensuring she made no noise, stopping when she came to the narrow canvas walled ally formed by separation of the tents. She waited in the shadows, until she saw one of the sentries try to hide a yawn.then felt around till she found a few fair sized pebbles, which he tossed over the command tent, listening for the click, clack of them hitting the stone that served as the floor of the court yard.

The pebbles bouncing off the tent and the ground had the desired effect, as both guards came instantly alert, and moved to investigate the meaning of the sounds, as soon as their bodies were turned away from Elvina's tent she moved as fast and quietly as she could till she was inside the tent, and standing in the dark cool shadows.

Sar'Lenis heard the guards returning and heard the rustle of command tents flap as at least one guard searched inside for intruders. Not even Sar'lenis would go unnoticed if they looked closely inside this tent, so she quickly searched for someplace to hide. She found Elvina's wardrobe and just managed to climb inside and close the door when she heard the flap move and a guard enter.

Bastion : … meanwhile ...

Someone who just made her way between the men coughed emphatically, and as Jezel turned around she could see her white haired commander standing not far from her, arms crossed.
Sorry to interrupt the demonstration, Vanguard Kelandon, but I must speak with you, now.

Elvina’s eyes shifted to Maran,” Instead of that lute, young Vanguard, draw your weapon and practise.” With her chin she motioned the young man towards Gormok.

Then she looked at Gormok and offered him a faint smile,” Swap your hallberd for a quarterstaff now. I need all my men intact when we leave the day after tomorrow.

When Elvina turned away expecting Jezel to follow, she didn’t saw how Maran’s companions grinned at their unfortunate friend whose eyes turned a moment skywards and seemed to wonder if Ishtar’s luck had just abandoned him. He took place before Gormok...

...

Elvina frowned as she approached the guard in front of her tent, and briefly looked left and right. Meanwhile Jezel wondered what was going on, but Elvina only raised her hand to silence her.

She turned at the Vanguard standing in front of her,” I have just sent a young girl here, where is she?

The guard saluted and then raised a brow,” I haven’t seen anyone, Ma’am...

Elvina muttered soft as she turned around to Jezel who was looking at her commander with questioning eyes.

Sar’lenis is here… and I bet she’s playing a game now. When I see her, she’ll be lucky if I don’t put her in irons.

Without awaiting reaction from the tall redhead she turned around and motioned Jezel over in her tent.

It was a bright and sunny day, and when Jezel entered the shaded place, she could see two simple camp beds, made, on the left, … a small desk with a few scrolls on the right, a large chest standing next to it, … and a small wardrobe in the back of the tent.

It also may be a mystery to Jezel how this place could look so clean, while Elvina was so busy all the time.
The white haired Vanguard sank to the nearest bed and started to take of her boots while looking up at Jezel. “Do me a favor, girl...

Jezel tilted her head and waited for what Elvina was about to say.

Go tell our guards to look out for Sar’lenis… and tell them to not shoot her down… yet…

And before Jezel realised, Elvina was laying down, turned to her side.
She slept like a log, her Vanguard cloak wrapped around her, and white tresses covering her face.

Jezel watched Elvina roll on to her side and fall instantly asleep. She was amazed at how Elvina could do that now that she had the stress and problems of commanding a unit about to deploy with only half the strength actually needed to ensure success.

She turned to inform the guards of their commanders orders, when the slightest scraping sound came to her from the wardrobe at the back of the tent...at first she wasn't even sure she had heard anything. but she wasn't about to turn her back on the possibility with out making sure. The warrior wasn't naive enough to think that all the increased activity in the are hadn't attracted the attention of any number of spies.

Moving slowly and carefully, so as not to alert anyone who might be hiding in the wardrobe, Jezel maneuvered herself to the wardrobe, ignoring her sword, which would have been a hindrance in the confined space available, she slowly drew her heaviest dagger, and reached for the door.

As soon as her fingers touched the knob Jezel knew who it was hidden with in. She backed away as quietly as she had approached, and informed the guards that Elvina had ordered them to search for the missing girl, and assured them that she would remain to protect the commander in their absence.

When the gurads were out of sight Jezel turned back to Elvina's tent. gnetly putting a hand of El's shoulder to wake her, while with the other putting a finger to her lips indicating Elvina should remain quiet.

Elvina opened her eyes and was ready to leap out off the cot until she saw Jezels finger to her lips, and the grin that accompanied her nod in the direction of the wardrobe.

Jezel soundlessly gestured for El to prepare a not harmful spell, and reached over the cot to pull open the door.

Traitor: Part 2

Amora watched vigilantly from her post in the tower. She spotted a small halfling from the scouts, tending to a horse, watching the chest moved all the way from Elvina's tent to the wagon. After the chest was loaded she left the scene and went into her tent. Amora took the opportunity to make her way to the back of the wagon and opened her little trap doors. She set up a pressure pad across the back of the wagon, and set a strong charge of a sonic trap to the fuse. Her orders were to take any traitors alive for Elvina to decide their fate.

Amora quickly slipped away and waited in the tents, getting to know some of the troops, not truly paying them any attention. When she spotted the little halfling woman make her way from the tent she stalked the suspect from a distance.

Amora watched as the small woman quickly sweep her hand for any trip wires along the back of the wagon. She then proceeded to climb in the back of the wagon. With a loud bang, the halfling was thrown off the wagon, and Amora sprinted from her spot, grabbing the stunned halfling by the neck. Amora's eyes flashed black as an orb of darkness covered them both by the time a few guards got around to checking out the noise. In the darkness, Amora quickly tied the hands of the little woman, and gagged her, before reaching into her pouch and tossing a dust of disappearance over them. Gagged, bound, and stunned, Amora lifted the small woman easily over her shoulder and slipped into Elvina's tent.

Amora tossed the halfling to the ground in the commanders tent and let out a dust of appearance to reveal the first traitor.

Traitor : Part 3

Elvina, who had heard the bang, was already waiting in the shadows of her tent. She knew and she had faith Amora could pull this off alone.
She wasn’t too much surprised when suddenly the tent opened and a moment later two people appeared in the middle of it, one small person laying on the ground, the other her trusted S.O. leader.

She whispered,“ Alright, lets first make sure the guards who will arrive here any minute now, don’t get to see this.

Elvina opened the large chest next to her desk, picked up the bound halfling and threw her in.

It was only seconds later when the two women heard one of the Vanguards at the entrance of her tent,” Ma’am, we have situation. There has been an attempt to sabotage the convoy.” It was clear this guard had no idea about the ‘document’ chest and the trap Amora had set up.

The tall white haired commander strode immediately out of her tent, just after gesturing Amora to stay put.

I want an immediate investigation. Inform Haravon that he’s in charge and search the Bastion. If people need me, they can find me at the wagons or here."

The young guard saluted,” Yes Ma’am!” just before turning away to execute his orders.

Elvina went back into her tent and nodded to Amora. “This ‘search’ and their nerves will keep them busy and more alert next time. The security and safety in our camp shouldn’t be taken for granted. I bet the next time you will have less time, Amora. So I’m ‘afraid’ you will have to come up with something else.” She grinned at the tiefling as they together opened the chest and grabbed the halfling.

Next Elvina took a scroll and mumbled the words on it, just before it disappeared in her hands. The air around them became blurry for a moment, before turning normal again.

Alright, people will ignore the tent and us for a little while now.” She turned over to the prisoner lowered the hood and removed the gag.

Almost immediately the little person started to curse and was heavily fighting the ropes that kept her bound.

Elvina’s eyes grew sad a moment as she recognized one of the scouts, a sympathetic halfling with dark short hair and a tanned skin. She had met her twice before and each time they had had a real ‘scout’ conversation.

Daisy Dale… why?

The Vanguard commander kneeled in front of the halfling who, with Amora’s ‘help’, was brought to a forced sitting position.

When the halfling calmed down a bit, she looked at Elvina with dark eyes. Gone was the earlier friendliness and the feeling of a connection between two scouts, gone were the twinkling lights in those little eyes and the hearty smile this halfling had shown when they laughed about some campsite stories.

Instead Elvina saw what Daisy really was, a performer. A performer that had just taken of her mask as the face that was looking at her was showing hate. And the moment Daisy started to talk, the voice filled with hatred and bitterness was hardly to ignore.
You left us behind! You ignored our call for help! You didn’t prevent my people being slaughtered.

Elvina raised a brow and briefly glanced at Amora,” Left who behind… me?

The halfling spit in Elvina’s face,” You and every other Vanguard, and the ones supporting you! My village was almost entirely destroyed and my kin wiped out by the dark skinned. If it weren’t for ‘them’, I would have no one left.

Elvina frowned,” Them?

Canites! YES THEM! They offered their help and destroyed the invaders… but not before a big part of my family was killed.

Elvina shook her head, the halfling in front of her was probably a Canite now, as she doubted the Canites would have done it freely, ... fighting dark elves.

Look, Daisy…

And don’t call me like that! Daisy died, I’m not Daisy anymore!” Suddenly the halfling lashed out with her legs and Elvina barely evaded the tiny blade that had ‘appeared’ on the little girl’s shoe… poisoned probably as it was far to small to inflict a serious flesh wound.

Alright, Amora. Take her unseen to the quartermaster as she will stand trial for betraying the Vanguard Oath and …” she glanced at the halfling,” … and with it the family that cared for her. She will also stand trial for attempted murder and assault on a Vanguard officer.

Daisy blinked a moment, and glanced from one woman to the other.

"I better now go show myself at those wagons." Elvina got up and glanced at Amora,” Send me the bill afterwards.

Elvina shook her head to Jezel as she didn’t had such a subtle spell. Instead she got up and walked over to the closet.

She glanced at Jezel and winked before she patted her closet while said rather loud,” Jezel, get my XO. I want to him lead mission ‘clean sweep’. He and his men have to search every tent, every bed and every closet for unidentified persons. I want to know who the hell is in our camp and I want to know it right now. And if they are hidden they will be chained immediately and lead away for interrogation, no matter who they are!

March for Dasar : Departing

The wind sent the black flags snapping sharply above the assembled men and women of the Ninth Company. The Colonel was the very picture of a model military officer, his armor and boots shiney as shiney could be. His cape, the Hawk Circular, blowing in the slight crisp breeze. There was not an eye that wasn't on him as he turned and gazed out over El's troopers. His Vanguard. He raised a hand to his shadowy beard and rubbed it, his voice then carrying over the disciplined soldiers of the Vanguard assembled at Fort Bastion.

"It is a funny thing, this war that takes us from where we wish to be. From our families. From our farms. From our business' and lovers. From our homes."

He began to walk the line of the formation. "And for what?" He stopped suddenly, looking at no one soldier in particular. "Certainly not so that Vanguard Elvina can march you until you vomit in your helmets, " he smirks, and there is some laughter from the men, "and certainly not so that we can sharpen swords or seek glory in the Princes army for the pay" Again, more nervous laughter erupts.

He walked the line again, nodding at some of the soldiers he knew, clasping some of the young ones he had yet to meet. "No, the reason we are here at this Fort, armed to the teeth, and sharp as razors, is because our way of life is threatened. Which way you might ask? The Varanite way? The Dasarian way? My way? Your way?" He shakes his head, reversing his direction back down the line. "No. The way of peace itself is threatened here, and all those who would seek it are at risk. And we few. We precious few, would see that it not slip from our grasp without a fight."

From the Formation, there begins cheers of assent which die down in the silence.

"And make no mistake, that Black Army across the river seeks to part you with your farms, our families, your life, and your freedom." He looks about at faces silently.

"But I don't care about your reasons." He looks out amongst them. "I don't care why you are here." He watches the raised eyebrows and concerned looks developing. "I don't NEED to. Because I know something far more important. I know that each one of you is my brother and my sister." From the throng, the cries begin anew. "I know that my blade and arrow will keep you from harm. And that yours, will keep me from harm as well." The cheers built, the Colonel's voice raising.

"I know that we will fight, as family, on this ground, until our blood wets it, our bodies lay strewn on it, and we have either won the day, or died keeping that army from winning theirs."

The cheers and cries overshadow doubts and fear now, the fighters insenced.

"We will fight with heart. We will defeat the Canites, and we will honor our valiant dead. We will do so for our Queen, for our homes, and for our freedom!"

The Colonel raised his hand in the air as he came back to the place in the formation where Vanguard Elvina and her team stood watching the troops, and wordlessly, a satisfied look on his face, he nodded to her.

Elvina offered Sam a wink and took place next to him while turning to the troopers, … her troopers now… Els Ninth.

A light shiver ran down over her back just before the white haired Vanguard lady began to speak, slowly raising her voice.

"We are Vanguards and we are going to war ! Now, I know what has been going in the cities, and how some people looked at others who aren’t the same !
Racism, ladies and gentlemen, will not be tolerated within our ranks !
You all probably think now where does the freedom of expressing yourself ends, and the sanctioning and preventing of hate speech begins !? The answer to that question should also lie within yourself and you should question yourself !
We are Vanguards and we are what Dasaria should be, a mixture of cultures and all at peace ! Isn’t that why we all do what we are about to do !?

Take a look at your left and your right ! Look at that dwarf, orc, half elf, family member, stranger, dark skinned, infidel or devouted, fighter or practitioner of magic, either male or female ! Take a good look as of now those are the ones who will be watching your back and those are the ones who deserve their backs being watched.
You know why ?!! As of now they will be your family !! They just became your brothers and sisters, for that is what we all are !!
"

Elvina lowered her voice only a little as she started to walk towards the troopers, moving between them.

"And I will be your sister. I will do the same as you do, and I promise you : I won’t leave you behind, whether you got cut off, injured or even fell in combat. You will be honored and your name will be praised. "

She looked at several faces and nodded.

"Lets bring those supplies towards the front, lets bring those blades to our people so that they can defend themselves, lets bring our lives and add them into the resistance against Canas, let us show these Canites we are still there and we will never go away, … let Dasaria know the Vanguards stood against their true enemy and are able to make him bleed !"

While the men cheered, Elvina looked at Sergeant Harovan and nodded.

The sturdy man blinked only once,” ALRIGHT, YOU HEARD THE COMMANDER! WELCOME TO THE ARMY! FOLLOW OUR ORDERS OR MAKE SURE YOU BUY STEEL PLATES TO PROTECT YOUR BUTTS FOR MY BOOT WILL FIND THEM. LET’S HEAD OUT TO WHERE SKULLS ARE CRACKED AND HEROES ARE MADE.

Jezel stood beside Jesik, trying desperately to keep her eye's open.. She hadn't had sleep for over 36 hours, and being walloped by an Orc for over an hour was very exhausting, even if it was just sparring. Then dealing with her uninvited little sister, Sar'Lenis, who she found hiding in Elvina's wardrobe chest, having avoided the sentries posted outside the command tent.

El was not impressed with Sar'Lenis's little games, and had threatened to have her shackled and thrown into the deepest dungeon cell she could find. Finally throwing up her arms in frustration, since even if she did the young rogue would probably still beat her back up to the surface.

El had ordered the guards to search the entire camp, looking for anyone or anything that seem not to belong, so the "discussion" over what to do with Sar'Lenis went unheard outside the tent.. which fit in with the plan Jezel had formulated on the spot.

In the end Elvina decided that since Sar'lenis arrived with a mysterious priest, pretending to be his assistant,, she and the priest.. Toran was his name if Jezel remembered right, that the girl, and the priest would be allowed to accompany them. More so because of the wagon load of medical supplies they had offered, than a desire for their company.

Elvina had things to deal with and left to take care of them leaving Jezel in charge of Sar'lenis. Jez looked down at her sister,

You will remain with this Toran, and act as his assistant, you will not even let on you Know Elvina, unless she calls for you. but in reality y uwill be watching out for her. Do you understand? I want you to use your ability to sneak around unseen to keep tabs on the camp. look for anyone ore anything suspicious. you will observe only, and report back to me..and only me.. clear? I will have to discuss somethings with another so if I'm not in camp you can report anything to her in my absence. El has a special unit for intelligence, and sabotage, but I want you to act outside of them, unless El herself tell you other wise. Now go back to your wagon don't be seen leaving the tent, and I'll come see you both later this evening.

Then it was off to the foundries, and smithies to meet up with the kids she was instructing earlier, to make sure they had proper equipment and weapons. The sword she had used for her demonstration was an easy enough fix,,all that was needed was a heavier pommel. it wasn't perfect, but at least swinging it wouldn't over balance the stroke, or tax the boys strength as much. Another ws a fine bronze weapon but being a softer metal it had warped with use, so Jezel had the smith straighten it, and merge a thin layer of steel to the cutting edge. this would give the blade extra strength, and it would also hold it's edge better.

Two were just so pathetic she gave them to the smith to melt down and use the metal for anything other than a sword, She looked over the mans work ans selected a bastard sword and two short swords to replace them, she told the that she would meet them all on the practice field in the morning and instruct them on how to use the weapons better.

Then it was off to the armorer to select new useable shield for all five of them, she wished she could outfit them all with tower shields but three of them were shorter than the shields would be, and one would be fighting with a weapon in each hand. so she selected the two best tower shield for the larger boys, a medium triangle shaped one for two more, and a small device called a sword breaker for the girl.

Then she had to run off and meet the XO, to go over the order of march, what to do if they ran into problems, from the get go. by the time she and Harovan had settled on a workable plan, it was daylight so she had just enough time to go rustle up some breakfast before running over to the practice field to begin a day of weapons instructions.

Gromok had decided to join them as well. This time holding one of the largest axes Jezel had ever seen. She granted his request for another sparring match, so after a long day of instructing her class, She found herself standing a few paces away from an Orc who knew how to swing an axe..this time there was no stopping after every round to explain what happened and why it happened. .this was full on from the start, and for over an hour she and Gormok took turns hitting each other with heavy pieces of metal.

It was impossible for Jezel to knock the Orc to the ground, but she was abl to get inside his attacks often enough to score what would have been lethal blows had the battle been real, that it was decided the four times Jezel had to pick herself up off the ground made it a draw.

A quick dinner and wash up, three hours spent pounding the visible evidence of the days adventure out of her armor, then finding Sar'lenis and Toran. She needed to talk to her sister, but wanted to check her traveling companion out for herself.

She found Toran to be just what he claimed to be, and his offer of relieving some of her aches and pains, and exhaustion was welcomed. Jezel spent several hours taking to the priest, and found him a delightful conversationalist, devoted to his god, but not a zealot, and she soon discovered why Sar'lenis considered him a close friend..but then she was also very friendly with a half orc back in Cear, so her judgement wasn't always the best.

Jezel left them to seek her bed, after midnight, but needed to recheck her equipment and pack away everything she wouldn't need the next day, as they were set to depart before mid day

And so the assembly in the front courtyard of the Bastion found Jezel barely able to stay awake, and she was o far past being able to concentrate on anything that was being said, she didn't even react to the roaring cheers when they erupted from the assembled soldiers. I she wasn't holding onto Jesiks reins she would probably be laying face down on the cobble stones.

Toward Dasar …

A lash was dealt on the backs of the horses, and with it the first wagon and the mission was put in motion. The mighty beasts pushed backwards against the ground with great force, their collars allowing them to use their full strength when pulling, while they forced their breath almost violently through their nostrils.
Els Ninth started to march...

Elvina and her XO Harovan almost immediately took the lead, and right behind her came Adele. The rest of her executive was spread among the company, leading their respective units.
A few hours earlier the scouts had moved out, only to be followed by Amora and her S.O. team a bit later. They would be their eyes and fingers, and if necessary, parts of the company would form a fist. Elvina glanced to her left at Vanguard Gormok marching in the front ranks of his unit. He got quiet famous after the demonstration with Jez. And she heard he learned Vanguard Maran a thing or two, which was according to his friends… quite welcoming.

The commander glanced over her shoulder at the not ten, but fifteen wagons they had to escort and protect. A faint smile was produced around her lips as she witnessed the surprise on people’s faces when they noticed there were five wagons more. Not even her executive had known, only the quartermaster and a few trusted men who loaded them and had kept them hidden with magic.
Another part of her plan and mission, and if it did work, it would be only a little more violently this time.

She looked back in front of her and nodded to Harovan she would explain later, but with a bit of luck she wouldn’t have to. She could imagine her tactician’s reaction though… Jezel standing in front of her, her hands on her hips and wondering why Elvina hadn't told her. Well, Jez wouldn’t have to complain that her advice hadn’t been good enough. The company was moving and instructed just like she had proposed, only a little bit more… stretched...

Elvina closed her eyes a moment and listened to the sounds produced by the company. Right now she could hear how the men marched maintaining a steady heel beat and cadence, slightly slower than a normal pace, the sound of rolling wagons and horses' hooves accompanying them. Last night a lot of water fell from the sky and the road was quite muddy, preventing the wagons to move at normal speed. She glanced up at the dark clouds in the distance. Well, the weather was one thing she couldn’t take into account, unless they had an elementalist within their ranks.
She closed her eyes for another moment...

If they were lucky, they would arrive in Dasar within five days,... and if they didn’t, then everything was going according to plan...

Skurge raised his snout and inhaled deeply catching the scent of horses over the next rise. He looked at the clouds in the distance and heard the sounds of marching soldiers. He turns to the sound and begins to jog towards it.

After a time he crossed the rise and saw the column of vanguards. upon sighting them he bellows and breaks into a full run heading towards the front of the column his heavy plate armor clanking.

Elvina saw the sturdy silhouette first and stood in the saddle as if to see better. From a distance it looked like an Orc, but she wasn't worried as the scouts probably let him pass earlier.

Harovan raised a brow and grunted,"Latecomers..."

The commander glanced at her XO before her eyes locked on the figure again. Damn, that man had sharp eyes, as she a few moments later perceived the Vanguard uniform, and.... a smoke trail behind the sturdy looking Vanguard.

When he came closer, Elvina blinked a few times and for two reasons. The first reason were the heads of dozens of Canites and Kor he was dragging behind him like it were a kid's toy.
Secondly, she recognized him as an old friend... a half orc she learned to know in the days she was dating Gene Starlight.

She rose her hand and the Vanguard column stopped, the heads of the Vanguards all facing the incoming Vanguard. Silence fell over the road as the half orc approached the commander while not letting go of the heads behind him.
A smile crossed over her face while she saluted," Vanguard Skurge... you are late." She glanced deliberately over at the heads. "But I assume the reason is you were held up."

Harovan grunted soft, but his eyes too shifted between the Vanguard and the heads," Guess roads are clear for t'day."

Elvina grinned and leaned over towards the half orc," Go find Adjudant Tirel, and ask him to place you in the same unit as Vanguard Gormok." Then she winked," Welcome Skurgie, and talk to you tonight."

Chuckling to himself, Maliker was glad to see the arrival of someone he actually knew. His horse jumped forward a bit. Keeping his mount at the same pace as the supply wagon he flanked was no easy task, the horse was treating the event as a race. A slight tug of the reins was enough to discourage the beast. Settling into his saddle, Maliker pulled the wide brim of his black hat lower over his brow, hoping the journey would be without incident.
