Reviving a Mercantile Guild

Post by DravenKash »

In game I have asked around about forming a merchant guild, and been told about the Order of the Diamond. It seems only when speaking about forming a guild do I see or hear anything about one already existing, but even if they do still exist there presence is in my opinion unnoticed and unfelt.

Do the Diamond still exist?

Is there current leadership?

If they have gone by the wayside and need revival, I am willing to take on the role. Although my character Jamran is rather partial to her Bigboots symbol, she is willing to make or revitalize a group for brand recognition.

The idea behind any restructuring or new guild creation would include.

-Union of Crafters and anyone interested in being even RP wise a merchant
-A place for players to learn crafting recipes.
-A mercantile military to help in transport and security.
-To combine shipping efforts reducing costs of taxes, tariffs, and tolls.
-Quests yes merchant themed quests I am sure we can bring a few to mind.

Personally as far as crafting recipes go they should not be as secretive as they currently seem, I feel that if a guild exists and people join such a guild they should be allowed to "purchase" crafting recipes. Or join up with fellow merchants for apprenticeships. Having a centralized group/location for crafting characters to learn there new trade seems

In fact to go a bit further although it would need revamping on the current system, recipes could include a check of ones inventory to confirm that they "have" the recipe for what is being crafted. Recipes could be included in the loot table as well for non guild members to learn as they go and players could trade such works with those asking for them. This may cause an inconvenience to currently established crafters, but should be minimal as I am sure they have money.

I would say that <OD> is not a going concern and hasn't been for a long time. If you want to start a crafting guild, more power to you.

The staff of Dasaria 2 has decided not to put recipes as found items in the game (though there are some hint-books and other things are clearly spelled out in the descriptions of certain items), nor do we allow recipes to be posted OOC on the forums. The discovery of, intrigue around recipes and such was always intended as a roleplay opportunity and/or a puzzle that players could have the pleasure of solving on their own (it's pretty logical and once you get the basics it's easier to expand upon your knowledge with a little experimentation).

What you want to do in-character with respect to recipes is your business, however. <OD> used to have an apprentice system, where senior members indoctrinated into the mysteries would RP teaching new members their first recipes, demonstrating, discussing the principles in character.

I've written on this topic in the past.

tl;dr A crafting guild is currently "whitespace;" Avoid trading recipes OOC; have fun with it.
