SPOOKY DAY IS ON THE WAY

I don't know, I think Halloween and Dasaria go hand in hand. So many zombies.

I've been plotting the demise of millions wearing my thinking cap over the last couple of months, and something I wanted to do was build a haunted house filled with nightmares with a quest line and everything. Turns out, to build things, you actually have to start building and it's now almost Halloween, SO! It's the next best thing, a Player-run Halloween madhouse.

I'm taking a lot of things into consideration, but I guess I should organize my thoughts rather than ramble aimlessly:
1. I need to decide if this is FORUM based, which I'm leaning toward, or somehow hosted in game.
2. I need input from anyone willing to give it, because the more input I have the better, though that doesn't strictly mean adherence to said input.
3. I need a group of minions to help me construct the funtimes and to help me "DM" the thread.
4. I need an audience of any number. Small or big, whatever.

Okay so now the details.
This "haunted house", I'm thinking, will be a place where PCs can meet and struggle against their greatest individual fears. It'll be a bit of a mystery--some mansion has popped up out of nowhere--or has it been hiding in plain daylight all along, without anybody ever noticing?

Is this canon? I don't know, it's about as canon as the DMs care to make it. It can be an alternate dimension, for all I care. Maybe it's all one big bad dream concocted by Coloth. See, I can get away with murder.

So the rough outline is:
1. PCs will be brought in, either in groups or wandering in as individuals.
2. They can meet/mingle/find one another. Thoses a bazillion rooms and areas, and they're constantly shifting about. Hell, if you want, you make up your own torture room. That'd be interesting.
3. A Few "rooms" will be concocted be myself and my volunteers of brainstorm/"dms". Hey, I'll call them PDMS. There, PlayerDungeonMasters. Way to go me. Anyways, these rooms will have various challenges and/or puzzles to conquer for whosoever decides to have their character show up there. And the rewards are figuring out what this mansion is and maybe even how to escape, destroy it, or take power over it.
4. Stuck, because somebody hasn't posted in awhile? NO PROBLEM. This mansion is equipped with tons of trapdoors and magical teleportation schemes to make them mysteriously vanish for awhile so you can continue. Hopefully, they're okay.
5. YOU HAVENT POSTED IN AWHILE AND YOU GOT DROPPED DOWN A TRAP DOOR?! Don't panic, because the mansion is constantly shifting, and your character landed somewhere in the lower levels. Also, the lower levels are pretty dangerous, filled with the trapped souls who have never escaped. Yay!

SO WHAT NOW?
Hit me up in PM or on IRC if you have ideas to share, or would like to volunteer as a PDM. Also if you're a real DM and thinking about spanking me for making up a type of DM, I LIKE SPANKINGS. I'll just leave it at that.

Q: When will this be?!?!1111000
A: I'm aiming for November 1. Yes, it's past Halloween. But next weekend I have work, Nov. 1 is a Saturday, which is grand. Halloween itself will probably be busy. Also, the thread only BEGINS on November 1. It ends when the players have reached some sort of ending stage, or if we all get bored and go do something else. This timeframe IS negotiable though, if it has to be.

Q. Are you playing your character / will other PDMs be playing their character?
A. I won't be. I prefer to delight in all mighty power. I don't know about PDMs. They certainly won't be allowed to have characters of theirs in the "main story progression".

Q. Are you worried about low turnout?
A. Nope. This can easily be made fun with one or even TWO people. And a heavy turnout, while more difficult to manage, is still also possible because yay this is a forum thread, and I plan to have more than ONE minion at my disposal.

Q. How can I get involved?
A. I hope this is an actual question and not just my wishful thinking. PM me, let me know you want to help brainstorm and/or be a PDM. If you're an actual DM and you want to DM, or to be a player, sure! I don't care! ITS TOPSY TURVEY MANSION!

Q. Are you worried about one post wonders or people just disappearing from the roleplay?
A. Actually, I COME from a forum-based roleplay land, so I have a pretty experienced opinion of this.
First, one shot wonders are A-okay. People have creative flexibility in this roleplay. They can design their character trapped in their hellish nightmares, for us to see, and then never post again. But you know what? That adds to the roleplay, the overall feel to the game. Another problem of forum based roleplay iss partner/group disappearance. Which is what I designed the trapdoors for. People who are inactive aren't BANNED BECAUSE EGO they're just shelved until they return and they can easily work back to their old group, or a new one. Lastly, about it ending.... forum roleplays rarely ever end. Not that I'm not planning an ending or hope to reach one, but in many cases they go on infinitely until people grow bored of it. Does that detract from the story? I'm of the opinion that, as long as someone is enjoying it, it is fine. Honestly, I'm not Stephen King, I'm not Clive Barker. My stories are at best a hobby and they don't always pan out perfectly planned, ESPECIALLY not in the flexibility of roleplay. Maybe forum roleplay isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's okay. But it's mine, and whoever else likes it.

Q. What about an in game event?
A. I would LOVE to do an in game event, but there are some issues:
1. It requires an actual area, which limits creative freedoms.
2. It requires a heavy dependence on DMs.
3. It requires a rigid timeframe, which means some people, namely Euros, won't get to attend it.

Q. Do you even WANT to do an in game event?
A. YES. SO MUCH YES. YES to the power of 10. I want to do BOTH because then both groups of people get the kind of thing they like. But unfortunately, I'm only one person. I can't plan both of them, I have to pick one, and the problems with an in game event makes it less appealing to me. But hey, if anybody wants to shoulder that responsibility, I will offer as much assistance as I can muster.

Q. Do you actually like spankings?
A. I'm not going to answer this question.
