Patrolling the streets is dirty buisness

Post by Shea_EvilBane »

Patrolling the streets of Cear was dangerous at night especially
when you are not a guard but doing it at the stroke of midnight
when its raining is down right ridiculous. Shea Evibane was part
of a secret mercenary band who took it in there own hands to
restore what was others when the guards just excepted the
bribes. Turning a corner Shea found a group of men harassing
a poor young girl who lied beaten on the ground. Holding his
halberd in two hands he started towards the men.

“Now Marthena give us the money or our ‘protection’ will be
taken away and we will see what the guards do to your little
business you got going on,” one of the older men said holding
his long sword under her neck. The men around him held
cudgels and looked under fed but the older man was rich and
muscular features could be seen exposed from under his short
t-shirt. A guards man cloak was worn probably to get rid of
any unwanted people hanging around but Shea was a law unto
himself. Clearing his throat Shea spoke above the man.
“I say you leave her alone and move on old man.” the man turned
slowly, upon spotting Shea was alone a smile crept across his face.

“poor mercenary trying to do the right thing,” he spat out, “go
along your way or I will have to gut you!”

“yer!” came the voice of one of his followers, “me master will
gut yar and ya be all over the pavestones ya will!”

“Silence fool or I will gut you!” said the old man back handing
the scrawny hire out.

The moon came out from behind the cloud and Shea could finally
see who it was, Matrim Mukberth master behind every organised
crime In the city, or though he thought. Some didn’t know they worked
for him but all always did. He used evil magic to infest those to
do his bidding.

“fine have it your way and die for the greatness and glory of the
Bane Mecrinary guild!” screamed Shea as he charged him. His
hire outs ran to get in the way but with one swoop of his halberd
Shea knocked them to the side with one taking the head of the
halberd in the stomach. He fell to the ground with half his body
mangled underneath the other half. The others being knocked
down with the hard oak staff rolled on the ground holding broken
ribs. Matrim prepared himself to block such a weapon as Shea’s.
but Shea specialised in smiting and summoned upon him the rage
of such divinity that even when Matrim threw his dagger at the running
battering ram all he felt was a slight pain in his thigh. Raising the
weapon he let it fly in a swooping action smashing Matrims weapon
and taking him in the back of the shoulder ripping it from his body.
He crumpled to the ground. Now out of the rage Shea felt the full pelt
of the dagger protruding out of his left thigh. Stumbling towards the
closes inn Shea burst through the door calling out for the innkeepers best fixing.

“I ain’t got fixin for dat kinda wounds mate!” exclaimed the bar
tender.

“I can fix the wound myself what I want is your finest wine and
no cheep tricks!” shouted Shea slamming his gold on the bar table.
A smile crossed the inn keeper’s face has he poured Shea a drink.

“long night huh…”

Nice entry to the world mate, but I rekon you should have a little trundle through the world backgrounds/information sections just to get a feel for where your madman is entering. :)
I don't feel any shame, I won't apologise

A night in the past

Post by Shea_EvilBane »

Shea sat up against the wall, armour off now he contemplated on
what had happened over the night. nearly daybreak Shea had sat
in the tavern since the attack last night. Shea’s thigh still throbbed
with pain but the sore had closed up with the help of a prayer to his
deity. Now as the sun rose Shea noticed the tavern’s name The Mistyvale
Inn. The old fat dwarf Master Roggins was the inn keeper and he sat
in the corner of the establishment pretending to be awake but obviously
asleep. He did a better job of that then any other inn keeper but I guess
that’s what you expect being in a all night inn. The night girls served
already drunk men more and more ale because they knew the drunker a
man was the easier it was for them to pick pocket them later. Pinching
bottoms was customary in here and the girls hardly noticed it at times just
giving the more drunker men a smile maybe hoping for a tip.

Shea took another sip from his wine. He had had the same wine all night only
drinking it when the pain was too much to bear. Four men had walked into
the bar just after he had. Drunk when they came in probably after getting
kicked out of the last bar they were in now drinking full ale pints in one gulp.
They had been eyeing him all night, there eyes moving between his bare leg,
his halberd and the pained expression on his face. Hew knew they would
make a move on him as soon as he left the inn so he ad stayed in the inn all
night even knowing it meant leaving the street guarding the guards. He
didn’t know what was worse getting another wound and maybe dying or
leaving the streets unguarded. Grunting at the thought he moved his thoughts
From the now to the past. He remembered this inn very well. It had been
The first place he had come to after the attack of goblins jumped them in the
Mountain gap just outside the city.

The fight had cost him the lives of all he loved. His mother, his father, his
brothers and most of all his mentor. His mentor had not had time to teach
him the ways of the paladin before he was killed. He remembered the walk
it had been simple stroll outside the academy. he had been locked inside
the house for years and needed the fresh air so on his sixth level achievement
as a paladin he was let outside the house. It was a summer Sunday and the
Weather was right for the walk with the birds out and the flowers in full
Blossom it was meant to be a good day. But it had only been a hour when
All of a sudden a arrow took his father in the chest he fell to the ground with
A loud thud. Everyone stared at his father with disbelief, all except for his
Mentor who drew his sword.

Suddenly out of the mountains came goblins running with their daggers held
High above their heads waiting to plunge them into the flesh of unwary
Travellers such as Shea and his companions. Drawing his sword he prepared to
defend his mother and his three and four year old brothers. The sword was odd
in his hand him being use to the use of a halberd but he had received training in
Both and intended to do as much to the attackers as he could before he died. The
Goblin swarmed his mentor and himself and he was forced witnessed his mentor cut
down to pieces. he fought with all my might slashing and killing all in his way. he heard
the distant Cry of a woman. Turning he saw his mother on her knees with a gash across her face
Spitting out blood all over the ground. his brothers were scrambling up the rocky
Hills as archers on the other hill shot them three times each in the back. They
Tumbled down back wards into a group of goblins who began to skin them. All of
A sudden he heard a galloping noise coming from behind him swivelling around blade
Taking goblins in the stomach and face he fought for his life. There rode a group of
Men wearing blue cloaks and blades shining. Something hit him in the back of the
Heads as the new comers swept past him killing the remaining goblins.

Shea awoke in a bed... Opening his eyes Shea realised he had been day
Dreaming again. Sweat beaded his forehead. Gathering up his items he
Threw a silver coin at the sleeping form of Roggins who stirred at the
Impact but went back to his sleep. Walking out of the inn he prepared
To face the counsel of the blue bane mercenary guild for abandoning
His post. As he walked down the street with the dim glow of the dimming
Night lamp posts four men appeared to be following him at a safe
Distance with daggers clearly hidden under their coats sighing he turned
To face the men…

“Had a long night huh…”

New meetings

New meetings

“Now fellas I’m sure we can work this out,” Shea said, “without the need for violence.”

“Sure,” came the groggy voice of the first man, “give us ya armour weapon and money and we won’t be forced to kill ya.”

Looking at his options Shea knew he stood no chance. He had no time and no strength to preform another smite, besides he had sworn to protect the underprivileged in the academy. The men started to approach drawing daggers, and one started to arm a cross bow. Knowing his life was in danger Shea did what any normal person would do, called for the guard. The men coming on him paused for a moment with surprised features pictured on their faces. Surprise painted Shea’s face as well. A dagger had just appeared in the leading mans neck, it had not been thrown or Shea would of seen it unless he was more out of it than he thought.

“Impossible!” came the cry from the man with the cross bow as he ran down one of the alley ways. The others started to walk backwards as the dagger became free and disappeared once more. Shea didn’t hang around to find out what would happen next. Running was something Shea thought he would never do, but then again Shea also thought he wouldn’t see disappearing daggers that floated. Suddenly something pulled him into a alley way. Shea lied there alone not even daring to breathe. Letting out a slow breath Shea stood and went to walk out again when all of a Sudden right in front of him appeared a person.

“Mother of...” Shea jumped backwards and jumping backwards means landing on your butt and landing on your butt hurts in armour.

“stay down!” came the slur of a female Tiefling, “ya don’t wanna get caught do ya?”

Shea studied the person in front of him. Quite a beauty except for the protruding horns on her head. Clearing his throat to stop himself humming he said, “Umm... can I get my halberd?”

She eyed him up and down and then gave him one of those woman looks when she knows what your thinking about her, smiled and walked out swaying her hips picked it up and gave it back to him. All Shea could do was stare in disbelief. He was Aasimar not some clumsy Human so why did he feel like his heart was in his mouth and beating so hard he thought she could hear it. She wore a close fitting leather tunic which only came down to her belly showing a fair amount of skin. Wearing tight long pants with metal discs sewn in it outlined her features very well.

“I guess if you can’t kill them the best way is to thrill them,” came the words out of Shea’s mouth before he could pull them back. She slapped him and then slapped him again. Shea’s vision blured and for a smart remark a nice cut across his face from the rings she wore. But by the gods she was pretty. Her long dark brown curls framed her perfectly circular face which held the deepest blue eyes. Her plump lips looked perfect for kissing and her nose perfect to snuggle with. The only put off for Shea besides the race was those annoying horns sticking out form the top of her head.

“Is that the thanks I get for saving your life!?!” she flared at him, “you would be dead without me and you say I am a hoar, and straight to my face,”

Shea was taken back. He had just been commenting on how beautiful she was. He agreed not the best way to go about it but she was pretty and pretty people make smart people do stupid stuff.

“I’m sorry ma’am I will remember to hold my tongue next time,” said Shea humbly, then suddenly remembering what she did, “now I think you have some answering to do.”

“If you mean about pulling you in here it was for your own good,” she said. Removing the dagger form her belt she said “remember this.”

It was the exact replacer form the dagger that had taken the man in the neck. By the gods it was the same one. “your a hider!” Shea exclaimed. “I thought they were myth. Tell me how did you do it?”

“O shut up!” she said with a disapproving look, “I didn’t disappear it was simply a trick of the light, how else do you think so many thieves can get up behind you and take ya money”

Raising one eye brow she managed somehow to tower over Shea even though being a few inches shorter than he. Taking a step backwards Shea hid his doubt. He had seen that trick before and none had done it as well as she had but she was too beautiful to not believe. A group of guards ran by and the new comer hugged the wall. After passing she let out a breath.

“there looking for you,” she whispered, “lets go!”

She went to run down the alley way past him and he grabbed her by the wrist.

“first tell me your name,” Shea demanded, “I at least deserve to know that?”

“Gailly,” she said, “Gailly Adder.”

They ran down alleyways for the rest of the day in silence until they finally reached a old house which had seen to much weather. A man stood at the door and on seeing us said,

“Seems you have had a long day...”

Nice. It gives insight into the character and it's an interesting read, but I have two "complaints".

The first is that there are quite a few spelling errors, if you want I'll clean that up. And while spelling doesn't make a good story, it can break one.

The second, and you may already be working on this, is that they don't really seem to have much personality. By that I mean, what I know about Shea is that, "The weak should be protected". Maybe tell a story about why he literally throws himself into danger for the protection of others; Was it something that he was told? Something that happened to him as a child?
The largest wound will come from those you considered friends.

Dreams in a childhood

Dreams in a childhood

“Shea, his mother called from the back porch, “Dinner time.”

Although only being in the next paddock over Shea failed to hear his mother. Sure if he had been digging fence holes or ploughing the field her voice could have been heard over two whole fields but Shea was doing what he did best. Brining his sword hard down upon the villains neck Shea swirled around cutting another fifty down. He danced a dance in his imagination swirling and twirling killing all those who stood in his way.

“Shea!” his mother called again, “Dinner!”

Still he failed to hear her rather dancing in his imagination then getting another load of his mothers pie he jumped upon the fence and started to jump form post to post cutting down villains who managed to leap up onto the ‘wall’ where he stood defending the keep. Leaping off the wall doing a summersault in the air Shea landed hard down upon his bottom.

“Shea!” his mother said with an angry voice, “Dinner!”

Looking up Shea noticed his mother on the porch. His mother never could be angry as much as she did try. Even now she sat there still with a smile on her face. Smiling back Shea began to scramble up to the house trying not to show the flip had hurt him so much.

“Here’s my boy,” his mother said beaming a smile at him and taking his face in her hand. Turning his head side to side she gave a sigh and told him to run up stairs to wash his face before dinner. Reaching up he gave his mother a kiss ran inside the door and up the stairs. The house in which Shea lived was a two story wooden lodge hidden in some pocket. His father had built it with his own hands or well he had improved upon the one his father had built before him. It was almost a tradition in their family to improve the house they had all spent their younger year’s in. now his grand parents where dead along with every other relative he had. Shea splashed the cold water from the basin on his face. His mother must have prepared it earlier hot but had gone cold while waiting for Shea. This was usual day for Shea long day of work followed by a few hours in his imagination, a cold wash of the face and a pie to finish it off. He loved mother’s pie but sometimes you get sick of only eating pumpkin pie. That’s why he could not wait to go to town tomorrow. He would go by himself for the first time in his life. And then that night they could eat a duck or something, it was his choice on the meal. Looking out to see the sun almost set he ran downstairs and jumped in his seat at the table where his family now sat. his mother was a beautiful person even by Aasimar standards cause that is what they are. His whole family is a pure half breed of Aasimar. His mother held a small bump which protruded from her stomach. She was pregnant and Shea could not wait for them to come. As much as he would have loved to have a baby brother to play with he would rather have a baby sister to save.

“Well!” his father exclaimed, “I’m starving so let’s eat.”

Offering a small prayer they began to eat the pie. The meal was small but appreciated and all enjoyed it even though it was pumpkin pie again. After dinner Shea began to get ready for bed while his mother and father washed up the dishes. Giving him s goodnight kiss his mother tucked him in and sung him a lullaby. He was asleep before the end of the song, dreaming again somewhere far off in his imagination slaying Dragons and Villains from the history books.

Shea awoke to the crow of the Rooster. Wearily he walked over to the basin still cold form last night. Dipping his hands in and brining up the water to wash his face he remembered what day it was. Market day.
