To ooc in /p or not?
To ooc in /p or not?
I have partied with many of you and every time I make a group I have to bring this up not to spoil the fun for others. Do we OOC in /p or not?
Do any of you expect RP happen in /p mode?

Party Channel ooc ? - no. - Use it for ooc stuff inside your party, so you do not disturb people outside your party or use it to discuss your tactics.
Party Channel rp ? - no. - People, who are not inside your party could not react to your rp, as they do not see what you are typing. If you are rp'ing, your "environment" should be able to see your actions/behavior.

Gimme a beeeeer 'n sum' beef, yeh ?!
What I wanted to say is, yes - there can be rp inside the /p-Channel.
Someone dies and respawns at the beginning of the map, you can rp the knockout via the party-channel. I use the /l Channel for my rp and additionally /p if my companions cannot hear me (e.g. they respawn somewhere else) to be able to solve the gravity of the situation in a rp-compliant way.
My answer : /p ≠ ooc

I use Party chat for OOC all of the time and I inform those whom I have partied with that it is the way I regard that particular function.
Tells I use almost exclusively in the same manner, except on rare ocassions that require some RP.
In my view, RP in Party chat is pretty useless as such - if you want others to "not hear" then use the Whisper channel and take a chance that nobody's listening in. Unless you make one of those extremely cheesy characters, you're not telepathic.
RPing in Party because you're not in the same area or in range, is again pretty useless. You might as well not RP at all. Go back to that telepathy thing I mentioned.

I don't regard Party Chat as OOC Chat.
If you want to chat OOC, log out and chat in the chat room, or do it on the boards. This is a RPG game, which stands for role-playing. If you don't like that, that's your perogative. However, if I'm in a group of people I know, and as I have done in the past, I won't make a huge deal otu of party chat if people do go OOC. Usually most in Das1 used (( or // to indicate it was OOC.
If you don't want to RP, why are you playing in a persistent RPG world?

I just go with the flow. If I am in a party and notice they continue to RP in party chat then I RP in party chat and use (( or // for ooc stuff. If they go ooc then I will go ooc. It can get a bit confusing in large parties of more than 4 people and half the time if someone is RP'ing in party chat it's simply because they forgot they were in party chat but it works for me.
Me too. although my own preference is to expect have some ooc in /p (for the reasons it disregards distance) , but only ic in /l, I will play it by ear and go with how the rest of the group seems to be playing it..Eowade wrote:I just go with the flow. I'm with Eowade. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It depends on my group and my mood. I usually keep my chat in talk because I hate it when I type up some good rp and find no one heard me because I was stuck in party.
It's not a big deal either way, people. It's just a game, we are not hardcore RP here. We are "please have fun" here.

The *only* exception I have with this is that you may want to add on a quick emote or "famous last words" for a death -- i.e., your character dies, respawns, and then you use /p in order to tack on a death emote or whatnot. But that is usually just a one-off to add color.Ludovic wrote:RPing in Party because you're not in the same area or in range, is again pretty useless. You might as well not RP at all. I've used /t to *support* roleplay -- for example, there was a time on another server when my rogue was trying to fast-talk a fighter into doing something for me, so I'd spun an elaborate lie about an area we were just about to walk into -- and during this I sent a tell to another party member *as I say this you notice me wink at you when he looks the other way* or something like that.
That said, if a group was using /p for roleplaying I don't think I'd have a cow or anything.
