I still maintain that the only needed balance fix for the dark races is to remove their spell resistance.
One thing I have noticed though, it that you don't really find any of the dark races at the higher levels in Dasaria. Most of them are either stifiled by the extra effort it takes to level up, or they made a dark elf/gnome/dwarf because they weren't very committed to sticking around anyway.

Or it could be that the only way you can judge someone is by their relative level to yours by the con system. Since my lvl 11 gnome has as much xp as a lvl 14 non ecl race I think he is doing fine. I'm not in it for a race to 20, nor am I going to compete for xp in the only place I can gain xp(the tower) with the handful of xp farmers that are always there. Every server reset it is an actual race between the same few people to get to the tower 1st. It is disgustingGreensleeves wrote:One thing I have noticed though, it that you don't really find any of the dark races at the higher levels in Dasaria. For the last week I have stood around in town and chatted with those who actually do want to rp. Sometimes I just listen to the fascinating stories others are telling in town square.
Character level indicates nothing of any significance.

I know what you mean. I was really just saying that players who take dark races seem less likely to stick around. Usually see them for a few days and theyre gone. Definatley not always true, just seems more likely.A Wandering Monk wrote:Or it could be that the only way you can judge someone is by their relative level to yours by the con system. Your point actually argues the opposite to me.
If RP is everything and levels and power don't mean much to the kind of player Dasaria wants, then what harm is there in simply balancing out the mechanics somewhat as a fallback plan to help reign in the less-than-ideal players? I mean it is not as if there is a huge cost or investment required in doing it - you just have to do a little coding.

For the record, I did not read all 10 pages of this thread.
There's a reason they are how they are.. alot of people don't want to put up with the 10k exp it takes to get lvl 2 as a deep gnome, and that's fine for them, but for the rest of us there's no reason in adding even MORE punishment for choosing something different.
I don't think things should be changed at all for the races, but then again you can look out the tavern window and see 5 drow standing there on a 35 person server, and that's not good representation of the world's division among the races (% of pop. as a certain race).
What I'm trying to say is that something should be done that's best for the RP atmosphere, not nerfing or buffing certain races so others feel justified for choosing humans over drow. There's already a huge penalty for playing deep gnomes, as all of the people you partied with at lvl 1 will be lvl 4 by the time you're lvl 2, and you'll have to look around for new groups of people to hang out with all the time.
That's just my two cents.

Level adjustments are much more of a balancer in PnP than in a setting like Dasaria, though. In PnP, you're stuck with what the DM and the party throw at you. A level 4 drow in a group with level 6 characters gets experience for being level 4 (I think, maybe), but he's going to be fighting level 6 enemies.Grahat'mah wrote:There's a reason they are how they are.. alot of people don't want to put up with the 10k exp it takes to get lvl 2 as a deep gnome, and that's fine for them, but for the rest of us there's no reason in adding even MORE punishment for choosing something different.
A level 4 drow in Dasaria just gets to run the quests for level 4 characters longer than other people do in order to reach level 5; it's longer, but not necessarily harder. That's not much of a balance for everything they get.

Well I have already said my peace on the subject, however I would just like to hear a definite answer regarding this subject so that I may either settle in with the rest of the community or be on my way. I'd hate to be wasting mine and there time if I can not be able to play the race of character that I enjoy and brings fun to the game for me and be left alone.

Well I believe the DMs aren't going to make a decision until much later. But if you play your character and RP with others and make Dasaria interesting. They will probably (I hope. I don't actually know) let you keep your character as a reward for contributing.
Just me. Not a DM at all. Take what I say with a grain of salt.

It is the same at level 20. The ECL races will have a CR of 21-24, while engaging level 20 content.
Some mornings it doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps..
This is probably the main point of centention, from a mechanics perspective.jawsofhana wrote:This is a very good point.

I'm of the mind-set that if a player isn't interested in this campaign and adapting to Dasaria house rules, they should play elsewhere. Adapting to a particular campaigns setting is one of the fundamental skills of a role-player. If a player can't do that, that player doesn't get role-playing and doesn't get Dasaria.
This isn't some amateur, thrown-together generic game server without vision and no plan for longevity. See how extensive the Campaign Background section is? They have put much time and thought into this project. No decision is going to be made without considering all aspects first. The staff has plans for what they want to accomplish and how the environment entertains it's community, with certain conventions that are expected to be accepted.
So many players here are concerned about how the staff and campaign should cater to them. Are there so few of us that are willing to cater to the DM staffs expectations of us?
It's not my desire to offend anyone, but if you're dead-set on only playing one type of character, and don't want to accept some responsibility to adapt on your part: Leave. Please. And take your scythe with you.
I just have to say as I'm getting a little aggravated by all of you that "choose" to play human, thats all well and good and I'm not condeming you for your choice or screaming get rid of your extra feat or skill point or cap your level. Just becuase you choose to play a race that is fast to level and in general well adapoted for any class and or build. So becuase there is a chance that someone out there that does enjoy playing one of these ecl races your screaming "nerf, nerf, nerf". Why, if it is such a roleplay server as some of you suggest and as I have seen, why then are you so worried about it in the begining unless you have well cant say that on here "envy" and are really worried about pvp in the end. Keep your eyes set on the rp rather then screaming nerf everytime something doesnt go your way becuase in the end it is the downfall of many a great game. Take a look at SWG it has gone to hell.

I have a drow. I will have a tiefling or aasimar. I also have a human, which is who you were talking to in the game yesterday.Kit Sune wrote:So becuase there is a chance that someone out there that does enjoy playing one of these ecl races your screaming "nerf, nerf, nerf". So no, it's not envy.

The thing is Kit Sune. In this campaign it's supposed to be Human majority. If that is true why should there be 1:1 Drow to human (I know it's not that bad but it's pretty damn bad).
It isn't a way to make the game "fair" It is intended to disswade people from picking Drow on a server that isn't supposed to HAVE many drow. Or for that matter. other races either!

Well I can understand and respect that, I'm just tired of most people commenting about balance between the races when they have just as much a chance to play any of the races they wish and then scream about balance. I mean that being the case lock them away as a reward like Krynn's New Begining did with monster races, set up dungeons with certain items you have to obtain, then take them to an insanily hard dungeon to have them crafted into said item to allow the subrace. That would be a feasiable option I think. That way those who have them have earned them at that point.
