Personally, I am casting my vote for hak files. I'd be happy to download them, and see them used to do suck things as mentioned here and more (aka - class/race/spell adjustments that fit the world).

I'm sure they did :)

So much functionality existed in NWN that is missing in NWN2. On the server I played on one could sit on chairs, lie down, look shocked, look scared, stand defiantly etc, and a hundred other combined speech and gesture emotes. But most importantly, we could break furniture!

Don't get me wrong though, I would dearly love the functionality discussed here. But if it means the DM/design are spending their time working the hak packs into Das2 rather than delivering new content, new content wins hands down for me everytime.

...???

NWN1 falls short of NWN2 as far as functionalities go by a long shot. Granted that at the moment they are not the easiest to work, but... All those things you mentioned and more can already be done. Regardless, let's not turn this into that kind of thread; I just felt it needed to be said.

heheh sure mate :)

My intention was not to talk nostalgically about the good old days. And its good to hear that the functionality exists.

You can sneak it into the next PWC file, no one will ever know! Just have it extract itself to the appropriate folder...

just want to chime in with my two cents... had a blast testing out the tool with SR last night and i will attest to the fact that IT ROCKS.

The only thing it doesn't do that the DMFI does is the Follow function, but it does a lot more too and the props and emotes are pretty cool...

the interface for making rolls is slicker than the DMFI too...

a few issues are the Tent and the Campfire, as already mentioned... Hopefully these could be modified so that if you place a tent or campfire, the last one you had placed would disappear, or even just disable that option...

It looks like there is plenty of room to customize the tool and there would probably be a way to integrate the follow command from the DMFI in... hopefully a later version will have something like that added.

As for chairs that you can sit on... i have seen one PW that had them working, and that was several months ago, so possibly others have them now too, but i haven't really been on others since i got sucked back into Dasaria... the PW is called Siflige and is under Social in Gamespy i belive... i talked to Wyv before and he said that sitting on chairs was very messy to implement, but it might be worth taking a look at how they did it... assuming they are willing to share their scripts for the chairs...

Apart from large animations like sitting/lying down and the like, I am not a huge fan of tons of emotes. Between hats and armor, attention focus and the like, I find it more effective to have someone type out *looks shocked* than to have their character do a small, incomprehensible movement to signify it. Similarly, I'd rather have someone type something out than hear a voice effect, as it allows me to play without game sound if I want, and makes the conversation possible to re-read if I missed something.

Object placement sounds like a can of worms. I can already see the tents littering the streets of Cear, even with a one-per-person limit.

One final concern is the handling of hak updates. If the hak is updated, will it require everyone on the server to update as well? If so, frequent updates would be a small pain.

That said, I'm not against the tool, but I have no real longing for it either.

All things considered, it could just be modified, you know?

Take selective bits of the code, implement it into the Resting conversation, voila. No hak needed...

There has been a patch for the DMFI tool. Its a single file that needs to replace the older one.

Yeah Abyssya PW has thier DMFI working perfectly, and chairs to sit on and thier campfires work flawlessly. The only drawback on that world is after 4th lvl you lose 1/2 of all your XP if you die !!
