Issues with Ealden
Ealden was missing again earlier today. One player I spoke to was convinced that Ealden had been killed by a PrC, but I recall mention of an over-zealous sweeper script (now in the closed bugs section)
It seems to me that both of these are possible causes, but the return of the rabid sweeper script is more likely.
Ealden often has a massive inventory which I believe contributes to the instability of transitions into and out of North Cear.
I would like to suggest that Four Finger Ram (or whatever he's called) be scripted to give the same buy/sell values as Ealden with the same permissions on goods bought and sold.
this has several advantages as far as I can see:
It doesnt make any difference to the cash flow situation
It doesnt make any difference to availability of goods
Players selling loot inside Trades and Commons do not need to transition to North Cear to do it, thus avoiding the one of most common (in my experience) transition crashes
Players selling loot in North Cear may still do so as they have before
Ealden's inventory, generally, will be somewhat smaller most of the time helping to reduce the transition crashes into North Cear and this might help with the most common transition crash, the one coming out of mistyvale
Ram's inventory being rather bigger shouldn't pose too much of a problem since his shop is pretty small.
If it should turn out that Ealden is being deliberately killed by a PrC the impact of this would be greatly reduced and the likelihood of that PrC being caught would be doubled (S/He'd have to do it twice to get the same effect)
The only disadvantage I can see is that a player looking for a particular item might have to go to both shops trying to find it, but I do not see this as a significant problem.

Ealden's proximity to the spawning point, and location, contributes to the amount of trade performed at his store.
How about moving his store into the adjecent building, instead? It's still just a small transition away, convenient place for people to do the trade. Meanwhile, if it does cause the obscene amount of crashing in North Cear transitions, it would still remediate it.
I would imagine Ealden, with his business blossoming, hiring an assistant to deal only with the merchandising, leaving him more time for what work he does do.
Or perhaps a merchant saw an opportunity to move in on his operations and get some profit their way.
Or Ealden's new wife decided he's doing too shobby of a job with it, and they should have spanky looking shop instead of the cluttered stall, with blue curtains and a rug, and don't even argue with me.
I think North Cear needs a store, if only for the sake of new players that might otherwise be discouraged by the apparent lack of thought to their position.
Ealden, right now, is also serving as a nice display of what can be found - I often browse his wares if only for the pleasure of seeing higher level equipment.
I'd rather not see the primary trading location moved elsewhere (aside from introducing another transition).
Incidentally, the purchase price cap, when introduced, did manage to limit the hoarding that was going on.
It also caused certain hard-working tiefling to lose her position as an intermediary to interested sellers. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.

That is a frightfully disturbing image.Chia wrote:Maybe when I turn blonde and become capable of sweeping the floor with my bosomMon-da-oth wrote:Sounds like you are volunteering for the job, Chia.Or Ealden's new wife decided he's doing too shobby of a job with it, and they should have spanky looking shop instead of the cluttered stall, with blue curtains and a rug, and don't even argue with me.
