Pet Peeves
Everyone has them, don't they? Whether it is a food, the smell of something, or just some sort of behavior - I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where we could talk about them in a friendly, enlightening manner without the thread derailing into a flame fest.
*angelic smile*
My own pet peeves would include people that seem to forget how to drive when it rains (a common thing in Ohio), the smell of eggs, and college officials that decide to change policies in order to get more money from their victims*. I would also like to include chinese food restaurants that don't bother to check to see if there's a dead bug carcass on top of your takeout container before they bag it. Yes, that happened to me this week. Needless to say, I'm not eating chinese for a while.
*The story regarding this is that Ohio State decided to stop a tiered program for their tuition in which half of the students paid a certain rate if they registered before a certain year, and half paid another higher rate after another year. So, Ohio is saying that they'll do an education plan to give colleges money if they don't raise tuition rates - so this is my school's back door, probably only semi-legal way of getting even more money. The creeps.

The people that call for tech support and then either:
1: Don't have their stuff together, so what should take 1 hour takes 3.
2: Accuse you of lying.
3: Tell you that your idea of how to fix the problem is wrong, and then go on to explain why it's wrong.
If you don't want or like my help, don't call me for it. >_<

1. My former University's administrative policies. (All the state universities are struggling right now because of strife between admin - faculty).
2. In the book: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance it says something like:
It is those partial attempts at quality that really get to you.
So true, half *** attempts at doing something right REALY get to me.
3. My degree is in Environmental Studies and a big pet peave is how certain colleagues of mine can be pretentious like they are saving the world. Like eating organic candy or something is honorable... VOLUNTEER one day a week and it will do more good than ALLL the organic crap in the world.
Peace to all my fellow public servants who know what I meaaannnnn!!!

I'm sensing somehow that your day isn't going well Paul. Hehe.
On that note, people that call customer service and:
(1) Don't believe what you tell them.
(2) Ask for a supervisor, because their version of what you just said sounds better than your version.
(3) Ask for a supervisor, because they're positive they'll get some better answer, or that the supervisor can go to the money tree in the back lot of the building and get them that refund they really don't deserve to have.
(4) Ask you if you are a customer service representative.
(5) Try to hit on you over the phone.
Note: These are not limited, nor have i seen any of them, except #4 in my current job - but these are from over 10 years experience plus in the field, and I'm sure I'll think of more.

LONO reminded me of another one: militant vegetarians. Okay, you eat only plants; I'm totally cool with that. Live and let live and all that fun crap. Okay, you only eat plants because you think it's mean to kill animals for food; see above. You only eat plants and you're now going to try to ruin my steak dinner because you think it's mean to eat a cow. Shove off, we've got incisors for a reason.
But I'm like that with any and all preachy types.

1.) two words...GOOD DROW!
2.) The political ads- I do not want to hear dirt smeared about your opponent, I want to hear what you PLAN to do to fix whatever issues the city/state/nation faces. I do not care if your opponent smoked pot when he was in the 11th grade or how many partners he had in his lifetime. I do want to hear if you are qualified for the position you are running for.
3.) The media. Here is a news flash for you...if you don't give people like PARIS BLOODY HILTON airtime, they will not be famous. I don't care what starlet was seen sans undies or what some spolied socialite did to land in jail. I do want to know what is going on in the world.

LOL!
I knew someone would bring up good drow, and I had a feeling it would be one of three people. I'm glad I wasn't disappointed.
You know, reading posts only brings out more ideas - we're really peevy people aren't we? Is this what unites us internationally? Or am I just really perky because I go home for the weekend in precisely 14 minutes and still need to read Austen's Persuasion for Monday?
The world might never know!

You know, while I'm thinking about it..
Driving Pet Peeves:
(1) People that think the fast lane should be called the "break-the-law" lane so they can go as fast as they can. It's called a "passing lane" for a reason. That doesn't mean you can go 80-90 MPH in it, because trust me, I've done it, and the nice police officer didn't like it that much.
(2) Semi trucks. Period.
(3) Idiots in my city of Columbus who want to go around 270 (its a freeway that goes around Columbus in a circle) as fast as they can to get into a special 'club' of elite morons. Oh, right, and adding to that as a subheading - calling into a radio show and telling the host that he's doing it... um, doesn't that beg the question, don't the cops listen to the radio too?

Indiana? is that you?Nazis. I really hate those guys.
in no particular order:
- driving
- the multiple bad points about religion and the people who wield it.
- ignorance - I can handle someone being rude to me, they are making time and taking an interest, people who would run you over or have no idea that you exist because they are ignorant need a quick bite on the bonce.
- international policies (no I'm not yanky bashin here): good grief, its not the middle ages any more, work it out ya buggers.
- internet wide boys: the guys that think they somehow grow to 6'6" and put on a Schwarzeneger body when they get behind a keyboard. I know you can ignore them, but I'd really like to take them up on their offers.....*seethe*
- the fact that Auckland claims to have 60 gallerys and be the most arty centre of southern hempishpericalnesses, and yet all they turn out to be is some proud parent in a shed displaying the work of his preschooler. nonsense I say (I've been looking for photo exhibitis..good ones, and they are few)
- the way it is always the Networks fault. Its not. deal with it.
- well said Baby: the media bites my arris something naughty. I hate it. Papparazzi should be shot on site. Magazines like Heat, Hello, Ok and all the other shite should be burnt and their workers shot. Channels like E (I mean come on, a whole 24 hour channel dedicated to fekwits and simpletons) should be removed from air and its workers..yes... shot.
- national pride: biggest cause of fekwittery ever.
er... that'll do for now.
I don't feel any shame, I won't apologise

1) Sandbaggers. In case you don't know what that is, it's a term we bowling nerds use for people who intentionally bowl really low scores the first few weeks of sanctioned league play to establish an artificially low average. By doing so, they receive more handicap pins, which makes winning easier later on when they finally decide to start bowling to their maximum ability. In otherwords, it's cheating.
Last night I delt with such a fellow. I've seen him bowl on my league for years, and he's easily as good as I am. I average 201. His team sheet said his average was 167. Needless to say, his team won 2 out of 3 games.. by narrow margins. Grrrr!!!
2) Anti-gun politicians. Enough said.
3) A certain type frequently seen in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. I tend to refer to them simply as "that guy". He is easily identified by the beer gut he attempts to contain within tight designer jeans and a tucked-in polo shirt. He drives a really expensive car, but mysteriously won't let anyone see where he lives. In the morning he drenches himself with a gallon of cologne. You can smell him from 3 blocks away. He is frequently in the company of strippers and is never without an ample supply of cocaine. He wears almost as much gold as Mr. T. He has scores of friends who all hail from New York, and who are all supposedly millionaires. When not at the strip club, he can be seen driving aimlessly around town on his cell phone talking about lucrative business "moves" he is involved in. Uhhhggg...
4) People who borrow money and avoid paying it back.
