Hullo, my name is Wingwocket Nuto. My friends call me Wingnut. I'm a gnome of no particular standing, no nobility, but I live life by my rules and rule #1 is enjoy life!
My life story is long and, for the most part, pretty boring.. Until recently. Y'see, I was playing a friendly game of cards with what I thought was a friendly group of roughnecks in some seedy bar near Landon. My take was getting thin and we were in the middle of a rather large pot. I was holding a near perfect hand and I thought "Wingnut ole chap, one card, one PROPER card, could swing this game in your favor". Now, being a tinkerer (did I mention I was a tinkerer?) of no particular standing, no nobility (did I meantion I'm ignob.. er.. of no nobility?), I've used some clever tinkerings of my own design to get into and out of "Sticky Situations".
I just happened to have a device of my own design on me.
Located in said device was the PROPER card.
I just happened to be in a "Sticky Situation".
I was done in by, you guessed it! a faulty wingnut.
The wingnut snaped in half at the perfectly WRONG instant. This wingnut was retaining a spring that, no longer retained, flipped my PROPER card in the face of a huge half-orc who, until that moment, had a rather smug looking expression in his eye, which was now watering profusly and a lot redder than normal because it was just smacked with a PROPER card.
Now, fortunatly for me these roughnecks were not the fastest thinking thinking machines in the laboratory (to quoth one of my favorite quothables). By the time they noticed the wierd tinkering protruding from my arm, the PROPER card that unceremoniously thwacked the half-orc in the eye and the intentions of one ignob.. er.. gnome of no nobility, I had grabbed what coin I could from the rather large pot and showed them my heels.
I'm a shade over a meter tall, my legs rather short, but let me tell you that I can move pretty darn fast in "Situations Best Left Far Behind You". This being one of those situations, I strived to break all personal speed records that had never been recorded.
Despite my velocity and my rather large head start, my roughneck "friends" were fast catching up with me. I could tell they were catching up to me by the way their snarling, slobering, cursing voices seemed to be getting louder by the second.
At this point in time my mind seemed to split into two parts (a third part of my mind marveled at this and desperatly wanted to take notes, but the other two parts quickly got rid of that annoying third part). The first part of my mind kept repeating one of my mothers favorite saying. I say repeating, but it was more like my mother had an amplifying device right next to my right ear and was screaming this saying over and over. That saying is "All good things happen for a reason"(That pesky third part of my mind wanted to debate the timing of such a occurance, but was once again quickly squashed). The second part of my mind (I later learned this was my "Will", not a mere part of my mind) was extremely focused. Unlike the din the first part of my mind was making, this "voice" was quiet yet insistant. This second part of my mind desperatly wanted to "Slow them roughnecks down". I felt a strange kind of power arise withing me and, low and behold! the snarling, slobering, cursing voices started to recede! I coaxed my rather short legs in to more velocity and foiled the persuit of the slow thinking posse on my tail.
For quite a while in my travels I pondered that second part of my mind. I talked about it with folk I met in my travels, at campfires we shared. One particular chap I met (A rather dour fellow) explained to me what I had done and what kind of path it could lead me down. His explination sounded intreging, dangerous, scarey and FUN! I took his advice and started down a path darker than I had ever traveled before. While this path has not change the core of who I am (I actuallity, the core of who I am is what grants me my new abilities), it has given me the means to become bigger than my 1 meter height. I no longer have to flee from roughnecks. I can now stand my ground and bring the fight to them.
It no longer matters that I am ignob.. er.. of no nobility. It no longer matters that I'm a gnome of no particular standing. For now I am Wingnut, Tinkerer.
And a Warlock.
