Silence.

There was silence as he closed his door in the Mistyvale. He would not be sleeping in the barracks tonight. A man can only take so much steel and stone before he needs to be surrounded with warm colours again.

Silence.

Look me in the eyes, boy.

He began to set his belongings and his bag to the side of his bed. The candlelight flickered and danced across the wall and into his mind.

Look me in the eyes. Now, you runt!

Had he said too much? Memories were coming and going. Predictions were going and coming.

Dead. That's what they are. Dead. You can't fix that.

What had made him speak? What was it that caused him to trust her, whom he'd never seen before, more than anyone else?

As are your parents... this I know, because, you see, Nicholas...

"Tonight is a full moon, Sir Woodruff." The voice rang from nowhere and everywhere. He looked about.

Silence.

I was the one that killed them.

Silence.

The morning light shines through Nicholas' window.

In place of his body there lies a small piece of parchment with one word on it...
