The Age of Dragons... perhaps in Dasaria?

Post by Arcanya »

Greetings friends!

Long time no chat here in the library from us DaVids! This has been mainly because we more or less lost contact when Neverwinter Nights 2 made it nearly impossible to properly enter the doors of Dasaria. And when we did manage to get inside, we would crash out most of the time again, so eventually we got tired of it and moved on to other lands. We had many great adventures, and still continue to do so, but still, deep inside, we also wanted to return to our homeland again someday.

This week, I'm sure some of you might have heard, Bioware finally showed us their newest game Dragon Age. For a long time I've been hoping this game would be what NWN2 should have been, and so far it looks sweet.

At the E3 in Los Angeles this week Bioware's Dr. Greg Zeschuk showed us 3 minutes of gameplay footage, and also a trailer was shown along with some great screenshots (above).

Here's a 300MB movie file that shows the gameplay footage in high quality:

Also the E3 trailer can be downloaded there.

And here are two video's in which Greg explains a bit about what we're seeing and where he talks about how this game is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate:

And finally, of course the link to the official site:

www.dragonage.com

Now of course the big Q is, since there is also talk about a world builder and toolset...

Will the age of dragons come to Dasaria III?

Best wishes to all of you who still remember us,

The DaVid Family :)

Heey! Long time no see, guys!

The crashes have, in fact, gotten far better than they have been. Games pretty playable now.

I've been following Dragon Age as well. They haven't confirmed the toolset question yet, so I'm still a bit concerned there.

We shall see, we shall see.

It doesn't even seem like multiplayer has been announced, let alone a toolset.

I can imagine a pretty rough transition if Dragon Age doesn't gain the necessary popularity to increase our playerbase. And if that's the case, it might be a good idea to hold off a while to transition. Why give the world builders so much work for nothing, right?

But that's just a what-if scenario to think about. I'm sure the game will turn out fine......... if it has multiplayer.

Does look like a fantastic game. I just dread the rig that can handle it.

It'll probably weight more then I do...

Perhaps not announced officially yet, but listen to Greg in one of those two E3 video's and you'll hear him talk about online communities and even the word toolset is dropped. Furthermore, before the Dragon Age site went live this was also written there (and still is under the "sign up" button):

"Are you a world builder or modder? We have epic news for you but our cruel masters have forbidden us from speaking on pain of death. Shapers of the world – join us!"

Anyway, one can dream no?

And why do you say dragon age will have no multiplayer?

Freaking Baldur's Gate had online co-op a decade ago.

I'm personally hoping it comes to consoles, then I don't have to worry about ridiculous system requirements.
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Hurray for Me!

At the end of this video, Greg says, "No, we are not planning on making this a multiplayer game. We are a single player game."

And well, NWN2 is not that bad. Sure the graphic can be better but otherwise nowadays it is patched up pretty good and works fine!

The spirit of the game is anyway the effort by the ones playing and or gamemastering... right. :)

True, but so far they are keeping their lips tight shut about anything related to the toolset/world building features, so he might as well also just strictly stick to only talking about the singleplayer campaign. And for that part I guess we won't see a multiplayer/coöp option. But until everything else about the game has been revealed, I'm keeping my hopes up.

Either way, I'm really looking forward to this return-to-fantasy game from Bioware. :)

Wikipedia wrote:Unlike many of BioWare's previous titles, Dragon Age: Origins is not based on a pre-existing franchise; the game mechanics and setting are being developed by BioWare specifically for the game. Dragon Age: Origins also utilizes a new game engine named Eclipse. It has been confirmed that a toolset for creation of fan-made content will be included, though it is a single-player only game. BioWare co-CEO Ray Muzyka describes Dragon Age: Origins as a 'spiritual successor' to the Baldur's Gate series.
Yes, there will be a toolset. No, it will not be multiplayer. This would lead one to believe that the toolset they are releasing is similar to the one released for Oblivion. In other words, brace yourself for a ton of mods, but no actual gameworlds.
