Item Level Restrictions

Post by ChemicalAgent »

I've seen a few requests for determining what character level is required when making items. This is the the method I use.

In the toolset, select your item and look at the two fields name Additional Cost and Base Cost. Sum these numbers together and check on the code below. The game fills in Base Cost by itself, but you can add to the Additional Cost field if you want to artificially increase the level requirement for an item.

Code: Select all

if (nItemVal <= 1000) nRqdLevel = 1;
	else if (nItemVal <= 1500) nRqdLevel = 2;
	else if (nItemVal <= 2500) nRqdLevel = 3;
	else if (nItemVal <= 3500) nRqdLevel = 4;
	else if (nItemVal <= 5000) nRqdLevel = 5;
	else if (nItemVal <= 6500) nRqdLevel = 6;
	else if (nItemVal <= 9000) nRqdLevel = 7;
	else if (nItemVal <= 12000) nRqdLevel = 8;
	else if (nItemVal <= 15000) nRqdLevel = 9;
	else if (nItemVal <= 19500) nRqdLevel = 10;
	else if (nItemVal <= 25000) nRqdLevel = 11;
	else if (nItemVal <= 30000) nRqdLevel = 12;
	else if (nItemVal <= 35000) nRqdLevel = 13;
	else if (nItemVal <= 40000) nRqdLevel = 14;
	else if (nItemVal <= 50000) nRqdLevel = 15;
	else if (nItemVal <= 65000) nRqdLevel = 16;
	else if (nItemVal <= 75000) nRqdLevel = 17;
	else if (nItemVal <= 90000) nRqdLevel = 18;
	else if (nItemVal <= 110000) nRqdLevel = 19;
	else if (nItemVal <= 130000) nRqdLevel = 20;

Just don't make the cost a negative number. If you do that, it breaks and sets the level requirement something impossible, like level 61.
Sir Hyel Loremaster- Knight of Argentum Vigilo, Archmage of Ordo Magica , Slayer of Zumen the Winged Death, & Head Librarian of the Great Library of Cear- Captain Firin- Korangar "The Wall" - Lucian Rhaz - & Glanin Redleafe.

Thanks Chem! I have a few more ideas for items but need to come up with some good lore to fill in the description. This will certainly help in tailoring them.

Also remember that artificially inflating the price of an item should* make it harder to UMD the item.

*I'm not entirely sure if it does or not.

I think that's how it used to work in NWN1, but in NWN2 I believe all UMD checks are statically set per type of restriction, with the exception of spell scrolls, which are set per spell level. Wands are DC10 for example, hence all the dwarves and orcs you see running around with bandoleers of wands strapped all over their bodies and stuffed into their cavities.
