"players put together a co-op team made up of other players and build their own story lines and quests with a content-generation system "tentatively codenamed Forge"

That to me sounds like a MMO set in neverwinter

Sounds a lot like City of Heroes's Architect system, which is an MMO.

I hope they don't expect to release a buggy game like NWN2 and want people to pay to play it.

100 years have passed since the Spellplague consumed the world of Faerûn. Neverwinter, a once majestic city of magic and adventure upon the mighty Sea of Swords, is still being rebuilt from near total ruination. Even as new wonders of stone and iron rivaling ancient works are being raised by the hands of man, dwarf and elf, dark powers beyond reckoning vie for control of the land...

This is a world that promises death for the meek, glory for the bold and danger for all. This is the world of Neverwinter.

the fact that there will still be a toolset type of application is good. However, what I have read about d&d 4th ed, makes me sad. It does not sound fun at all, and only 5 classes?

Dragon Age only had 3 classes :)

I think their "toolset" type application will end up being kind of like City of Heroes' "Architect". It does seem like its an MMO, especially with "thousands of..." added in there.

I know I won't buy a Pay to Play (Like most MMO's, not counting DnD Online (Currently I think) and Guild Wars) from OE, not with how buggy NWN2 is (At least not for 4 years when they finally work about 50% of the bugs.)

In before the "I never played 4e, but I'll judge it anyway" people. *Snickers.*

And guys, it's not an MMO. >_> The campaign can be played as solo, or with up to 5 other players. Pretty much like how the Neverwinter Nights games were (except the one from the '90s).

It sounds like there will be servers set up for each session that people wanna do. The only questions are... Will you be able to set up private servers, will they allow for more than just 5 people, and will the toolset allow you to create custom worlds, or just add-ons for the campaign?

Either way, the info so far sounds interesting, though there is hardly enough to really judge upon. Cryptic did City of Heroes and Champions Online, which were pretty fun.

Also, here's a better article: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/neverwin ... e=previews

If there's one thing I'm really excited about, it's that they're promising a diverse character creator like what they've had in Champions Online and Star Trek Online. Hooray for unique-looking characters!

Certainly sounds like an MMO Chimp, it would be hard to have thousands of characters in a persistent world and not be a MMO.

And from your link:
it also won't be a traditional massively multiplayer online game, either.
Since he didn't say "it also won't be a MMO game, either." its possible to read that as it -is- a MMO, but just not like normal MMOs.

Just some thoughts on their wording.

I'll withhold judgment, but I'm honestly not sure how they'll translate 4th Edition from turn-based to real-time. The powers in 4th Edition involve a lot, and I mean a lot, of powered based on manipulating enemy/party position. 4th Edition is really more of a wargame than a role-playing game, based on rules alone, and a wargame that is based heavily around field position and manipulation. Further the support classes are much less about giving duration buffs and more instantaneous buffs, again, something that works really well in a turn-based rpg/waregame, but doesn't translate easily to realtime.

Plus if it based on 4th edition that means that character classes are much more restricted. They're more balanced, but character development is on pretty confined rails, for pen and paper, at least. Since a lot will have to be translated from PnP to the real-time environment, they might be able to remedy this situation.

That said, from the interviews it seems like the persistent world like we're used to won't be an option. So NWN2 will be where Dasaria still has to stay.

Fighter, Wizard, Rogue, Ranger, and Cleric, actually.

And keep in mind that the supplements have added a ton of character build options. But that all depends what Cryptic wants to add (and what they want to make up). Still, I expect more build options than what DA or WoW had.

Fighter, Wizard, Rogue, and Cleric were more or less guaranteed. They are (approximately) the classic four.
But, out of all the mixed/hybrid classes, Ranger made it in? Not Paladin or Bard?

Well, they said that they will be adding more content, including classes, as they go along. I know how Cryptic likes to add their free content in patches!
