Through government funded research I have been able to determine why there is no Underdark...
Simply put, there is no room. Think about it, what's under Cear right now?
Goblin caves
Wererat caves
Sewer full of water elementals
A tomb full of zombies
The Kalem's hideout
The real estate was simply not available!

I will end you. I will send you screaming into the abyss, where you will sit in the great wall and think of me until oblivion. Your life and your generations, are mine.

But at the end of the aquaducts, under the grate in the corner, through the 50-foot crawlspace, past the cavern opening and beyond the great underground chasm, then across the icey-slick flowstone floor, is the hole in the ground that leads to a 20-day-hike to the nearest Underdark outpost.Neradur_Verus wrote: Sewer full of water elementals
Anyone want to get started designing those areas?
If you design them appropriately far from Cear, you might never see a drow in town again

Yeess.... 30 zones from "Underdark" (Actually a dank cave where all the drow and Svirf spawn) and then they have to fight (in each zone) 30 red dragons at once before they can zone to the next.Delemont wrote:But at the end of the aquaducts, under the grate in the corner, through the 50-foot crawlspace, past the cavern opening and beyond the great underground chasm, then across the icey-slick flowstone floor, is the hole in the ground that leads to a 20-day-hike to the nearest Underdark outpost.Neradur_Verus wrote: Sewer full of water elementals

In all seriousness, I think we're going to need some history on Drow so that people can at least see where they're coming from and how Drow came to be in Dasaria.

Fine you want a history?
Here it is.
Drow showed up and started killing everyone. Then they kept killing everyone. Then they became enemies of the state and kept killing everyone. (seeing a trend?)

I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Kell wrote:That's true, though there have been more drow who did have influence. They just weren't part of any major families. The G'elle were outcast from the Underdark, what was wrong with the Nayli'o I'm not sure of, but I suspect it's somewhere along the same lines.Elrith wrote:1. There seemed to have been two influential drow lineages. The Nayli'o , and G'elle.
What happened before this is that drow were accepted. They were shunned and mistrusted, but people would gather around them in clutches to protect them from the bad guys whenever they thought a drow wasn't all as bad as presumed. The said drow was a very lucky guy. Mweheh.2. In the timeline for Das 1 soon after the Rian Elves arrive they meet with the Queen to discuss the Drow. (What happened during and after this?)
What happened during this is that drow at said time were kicking up a fuss, they were showing their true nature and slowly forming their own groups. They were discerning themselves from the mob and it were their own actions that provoked the queen to outlaw them.
What happened after this is that indeed; drow were outlawed. They weren't allowed in the cities anymore. All drow were KoS. It made it difficult for a new drow to exist, which was good because only good (well, good played ones) remained to exist and the overly big group of Good, Paladin Drow just vanished because they 1. had nobody to RP with and 2. They couldn't get anybody to believe them. This was a lonely time for people who played drow, but very rewarding and inviting to build a reputation as drow. It also invited for lots of scheming amongst the "evil" groups, like the nergalites with the drow, the various drow groups amongst eachother (who were litteraly ready to drink eachother's blood but were forced to cooperate).
Nope, that's true. But seeing that most drow living in Dasaria are tossed out or runaway drow, I'm not sure how the Trials would be of much importance. If anything, I'd say that Anshar was the most likely one to replace Lolth. Maybe it could be the Trials of Anshar. But that's yet to be determined, so it's open for people to roleplay whatever happened. Drow in Dasaria don't entirely equal Drow in the Faerun Campaignsetting. They have the same stats and they look the same; but they are Dasarian drow. They aren't fleshed out the same way just yet, though they look alike a lot. So a lot can still be found out about them. Maybe someone should write something down and send it to the DM's for approval, I'd be thrilled to see a more detailed thing on who they are and what they do.3. Lolth is not in the pantheon thus the trials of Lolth do not exist unless there is some sort of replacement.
They should be, but shamefully they are not. Any proper drow will spit in their faces. Good drow are shunned by the surfacers -and- their own kin alike, as they should be. Good drow are KoS for -all- and it's hunting season.4. They are (I think justly) considered to be evil, and should be of no other alignment.
They aren't documented because they were outcasts. Some, like myself, have interacted often with surfacers. I am married to one and my two children are half-drow and half-highelf. Others have only interacted with them on a less personal level; with a blade in between or through them.5. Various posts from players (in the Das 1 forums) leave me with an impression that they are exact carbon copies of the forgotten realms Drow just without Lolth.
A few comments about #5:
If true, I'm a bit disappointed that they don't have a more documented existence within Dasaria. It seems that no one wants them to have a history of their own, unlike the Rian. What I'm trying to get across here is that the underground lifestyle may be the same, but surely they have a history of interaction with the surface that has been passed down somewhere? I'm just looking for campaign specific tidbits to mold my character around and influence my present behavior.
After all those not present for the first campaign can't have much of a unique Dasarian dark elf past if everything is the same as in the forgotten realms.
Finally, If any of you can point me to things I may have missed I'm sure it would help me and the others interested in interacting with the Drow.
Thanks!
What -is- documented however, I'll point you out to. There are several stories I've written down about myself. Maybe they might help you some. I'll try to find the G'elle stories as well, will post them here when I find them. But honestly, they aren't as interesting. Afterall, they were nothing but lowdown dogs anyways.
If you have any questions and you think I can answer them, feel free to message me. I'm always prepared to help out one of my own kin....

True literature. True. Absolutely. I'm amazed about the capabilities of their extremely small skulls. They speak and behave like monkeys, but writing they -can-!
These are mine (and part my wives'. She's a blessed writer, much more then myself.):

I hope these little tidbits will help you. There are many more stories on the old forums. If you are looking for Teleiri with the search- (what a nifty function, I like this age of technology!) -button, you may find things about her little squarel with Sin, and all that. I'm not sure why, but they were always dancing around eachother like puppets. Intriguing, but not quite.
Anyways, I have things to do. Be good.
There is a history of drow in Dasaria. Remember the search function is your friend.
Furthermore, Drow were never supposed to be introduced, but since they snuck in through the back door , we are a bit stuck with them. To create a whole new idea of where they came from in this campaign would be a disservice to those that carved a niche in the old campaign without any benefit of lore at all.

Considering the exsisting lore on Drow in Dasaria, I think the creation of Drow history is open to anyone. I see no need to copy the Drow of the Underdark from Forgotten Realms.
For example, the Forest of the Damned is an area of eternal darkness. IMO, it is possible the drow come from that area and exsist on the surface and underground.
Why not tailor the Dark elves to fit this campaign. We have plenty of creative people in this community. I am sure someone could think of something.

You have no idea how much blood I have on my hands, simply because of that.Guten Raynor wrote:The problem I see with this "Kill the drow before they kill you" is exactly that... that is giving all drow a reason to kill the other races simply for who they are. I can understand racism but not KoSing.
Either you're playing an evil race, or you don't. If you do; play accordingly to it. And accept the consequences. If you don't; you're taking the easy ride home.
I'm open for all questions should anybody have any questions regarding the past of Drow on Dasaria and regarding the nature and habits of Drow in the Forgotten Realms. I'm a walking dictionary where it comes to that race.
But I don't know nearly as much as Kin G'elle knew, for instance. Or Tin, she understood her heritage unlike any other female.
If a Drow is played -well- then you wont have any issues with him or her... Because IC they will be slick, evil bastards but ooc they players will be good roleplayers who're in it for a -game- to have fun and to understand what it is all about. It's the bad players that make it rather bad for those who -do- try to play nice. (Relatively nice, of course, we're talking drow here still, heh)
You people and your hatred against drow.. Tsk tsk. To be honest; I don't know any other race in the Forgotten Realm that is -this- fascinating and captivating. They have a rich culture, history and so many secrets to them that it's just a challenge to play one well.
It's just a shame that those who screw it over for the rest, don't take time to research what they are playing.
Come on Jonny you should know better. Don't encourage them.
One thing I forgot to add. I am no longer speaking to any elves that insist on wearing a helmet in my presence. You Drow think you can fool ole' Ronus by covering your face. I can smell a dark elf from a mile away. Those paladin helms can cover a face, but the smell is always gonna give you away.
