Craft Wand question

Post by RUReadySetGo »

Is wand crafting the same as the OC ruleset, or do I need to find recipies in order to do this as well? I checked the crafting guide and it's either not mentioned or I blew past it. A keyword search for "wand" returned no results, but that may be based on the way the board post messages.

Crafting wands is like the oc. Cast the spell on the wand, and if you have enough gold, you will have your wand.

Lots of people make heavy use of it. You can get a lot of good wands, and can make quite a bit of money selling them to players.

I don't really see how this is a true advantage. The only people able to use the crafted wand are casters and high UMD characters (rogues). Casters are able to just make the wands themselves and likely for less than I'd be able to sell. I also don't see an advantage to giving a bunch of thieves the ability to cast 50 instances of a spell that will likely save their hides.

I've found it useful if you have a free feat on a spell-starved class. But yes, otherwise, it's most useful for casters who are also merchants, whether they are abetting 'thieves,' as you say, or crafters.

Rogues aren't the only ones with UMD, and not many people actually get craft Wand. You also have the hybrid classes (like Sorc/Bard RDDs, sorc/eldritch knights, sorc/arcane tricksters, arcane archers, palemasters...) that don't get high level spellcasting, sorcerers (as Blackheart mentioned) can't cast many spells, and thus can make good use of them, bards and warlocks get few, or none, of the wandable spells and can make good use of the spells! :D

For Warlocks UMD thing is great - being able to add to warlock powers buff abilities of both wizard and cleric and druid spelllists is awesome, considering that most basic buff wands are quite cheap to make
Having hi cha as warlock helps too to get acees to all of them faster
Being Favorite soul it could be usefull to get 1 warlock lvl for Leaps or Luck (4 dex permanently or cha bonus to all saves) and pound all + saved skill points into this skill, and with small choice of FS spells, FS could use both devine spells which he were not able to take and also arcane spells like mage armor and shield, Making you tricky-type FS which addionally to his martial powers and own spells can use any other type low lvl but very usefull spells.
