Anyone else catch this HBO series? I like it thus far. If you have seen it what do you think about it?

That was an interesting serie! It leaned a little to much on stereotypes and half witted sex scenes.

But all in all I very much enjoyed the effort to get intrigue and plots central to the story!

(I hate tha fact that it looks like its going to be one of them series who will just keep going until folks get so sick of it that they simply stop watching...)

I have not seen the series but I may give it a shot as it might breach the gap that I have with the books.

I can never seem to find enjoyment in the books themselves. I enjoy character development too much, and it seems so anti climatic when you finally get to enjoy one character only to have them killed off. Then find another you like, start to enjoy, have them killed off. Find yet another that you like, are not really willing to enjoy too much cause you're fairly sure they are being set up to die, then see them killed off. I end up setting the book down after awhile and looking for something which allows better following. I am pleased with one thing, the last book I read in the series (I think it was only the second one) let me inadvertently to get a copy of Sanderson's newer work of the same theme 'The Way of Kings', which I greatly enjoyed.

Does the series follow better character development than the books? Is it worth getting into if I am someone who does not find lack of continued development enjoyable?
Atrocity has no excuses, no mitigating argument. Atrocity never balances or rectifies the past. Atrocity merely arms the future for more atrocity. Whoever commits atrocity also commits those future atrocities thus bred.

A friend of mine recently lent me the first book, which I have yet to open but surely plan to do so, unfortunately I began watching the series first and would rather not skew my thoughts of the series just yet. I will say this, I have found the character development in the show seems rather interesting, I find myself loving the development of Arya Stark and Jon Snow in the show.I am only 5 episodes in at the moment so where it goes I do not know.

I would agree with Vast with his comment to the half-witted sex scenes and stero-types, but I can overlook it for the mastery of plot highlighting.

Glad to get thoughts on it.

At first I had the same reaction as LordVare about characters being killed off. But then I realized that contrary to almost every of series I read, that means that I REALLY don't have a clue what is going to happen. There is an actual possibility that this character I love, the main one of the book so far, could die at the end of this chapter. Nothing is sacred. It leads to a sense of "danger" that I usually do not see in books. I just trust that if that happens George R.R. Martin will be able to craft someone else whose story I care about. He has already taken character I did not care about or actively disliked, turn them into a main character, and suck me into their story against my will. It is a wild ride!

I watched em when they came out back starting in April. This show and The Walking Dead are the only shows that I have actually been excited to see the next episode of every week since Lost ended. If you have the opportunity to watch the episodes in HD it makes the experience so much more enjoyable.

Also, best dwarf EVER! You know who I'm talking about :D

Haven't watched the series or read the books, and the dwarf is on of the few characters I've heard of. The summation of what I know about the game of thrones via a pcgamer article a few months ago:

H*** yeah! Tyrion is my personal favourite character in the series. A good role model for me and my children! I just hope he will stay selfish and wicked throughout the series...

Really? I thought the characters were anything but stereotypes. Hardly anyone is a do gooder knight of the songs and even the villains have many shades.

I absolutely loved the series and I hadn't read the books. I went out and bought them all the next day. Currently upto the 4th one. The best thing is there's no good faction vs evil faction, there's good and evil people spread all over the place on every side of the war. Characters who you hated and thought were stereotypical badguys can surprise you all of a sudden with their point of view and you realise that they aren't that bad afterall, you were just seeing things from their enemy.

It's an amazingly detailed epic that's all about the characters.

I meant more so perhaps the gender perspecitve... Its the "Spartacus" (the gladiator series before the uprising) sort of life.
I cant say I have been surprised by any actions so far. It was pretty clear from episode one that this was "Dallas" in a fantasy setting. But I like it.
Its that kind of series, I was surprised about who died and not though...
