(H)Elves really aren't all that handsome...

Post by Kell »

Hey hey,

We, the female population of Dasaria, are disappointed by the lack of pretty elven males. They all share the same bug-eyed faces and honestly; we could make due with them but only if we pulled a bag over their heads. We think this may be one of the reasons why male population is so low; nobody wants to be stuck with a face like that. Right?

Same goes for half-elves.

Is there a way for us to perhaps introduce handsome elves and half-elves? Because we've got chainmail bikini's, pretty elven girls, pretty hairdos to please the men but we, the women, want something to look at too.

Kind regards,
"A wise man once said nothing."

How about this one? Does it work like this?

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NW ... tail&id=61
Updated eye textures (should work on all races that use P_HHM_Eye01)
10 female and 15 male human heads
5 male and 5 female Aasimar heads
6 male and 6 female Half Elf heads
3 Sun Elf Male and 5 female heads
3 Drow Male and 5 Female heads
2 hairs that replace the bald and mohawk female hair presets so that none of the NPCs that use those hairstyles will make your eyes bleed with horrible seams

I don't know what you mean, but I use it on single player and it's good for all races (actually, I was surprised that it hadn't been added to Dasaria). However, I don't know if it's possible to avoid screwing up some of the existing characters by changing their heads...

Nah, I didn't mean personal haks. I was wondering if the Devs could put it in the Das pack.

Long time player, not a DM or Staff member in any way shape or form, so take this with a grain of salt:

Based on what I know of how NWN2 works (which is albeit limited but non-trivial) it's not that hard to add them in after the original heads instead of overwriting. That's work that a Dasaria based developer would have to do as the pack is set up strictly as a replacement pack. However, that would prevent folk's heads from being overridden as they are, but would require rerolls to use them or direct invervention by Wired to change what head is associated with the characters in Dasaria's database. This also means that there would be more options, even though its true that the original NWN2 heads are... ugly.

The big thing to remember that Dasaria plays above-board with third party content. We'd need to get permission from the content creator to use it on Dasaria as I see no blanket statement allowing third parties to redistribute on either the NWN Vault or the NWN2 Nexus sites for the file, so we'd have to contact the author to get permission to use the heads on Dasaria no matter what.

EDIT: I am apparently blind or something, the author does grant a blanket permission on the NWN Vault site:
This project is designed to provide updated resources that can be used by the community as well as the casual player simply wanting a better looking game. All assets are free to use, alter and distribute provided credit is given.
Seeing as we have a Third Party Credits thread specifically for that, the only major thing standing in the way of us using that head pack is someone re-writing it to be additions rather than replacements. I know it can be done, but I'm not sure how.

That's what I meant, but as Pere explained, the new heads overwrite the old ones, at least by default (I'm not a modder so I don't know how to fix that). Ugly or not, this may end up with a character who previously had a beard to be shaved or just have a moustache after the mod is installed. Or to be one-eyed, or whatever.

If it can be easily added while avoiding those issues, I'm all for it.

Alright. Thanks for the input. Wonder what the devs have to say about it.

Easy but time consuming and repetitive. Could not be installed stock, would need to be cloned/renamed to prevent overriding existing models and conflicting with other custom content. A chore, not a technical problem.

For the record, the additional hair functions on all human-skeleton-having races; and I haven't made any elf heads, only humans, and equal parts men and women at that! Some day if I get time (and this may never happen) I'll point the ears and spread them to (h)Elves maybe.

This is a slow time of year for me because I'm spending a lot of 'off hours' in the woods rather in front of the computer.

Alright. Yes, I know about the hair, but it really is the faces. There are custom elven female faces, but males are stuck with it. That's why I asked :)

Alright, here's how this thing maps to Dasaria ... I would do a generic 'PW-friendly' non-overrding version, but we've already mapped all Elves to a common set of models and Aasimars to humans, so no-can-do.

There's probably some duplication of Elf heads here as I haven't done a visual check on them all, e.g., it looks like maybe EDF_Head01 and EEF_Head01 are the same model but have different textures, but the ears of ESF_Head01 look a little different than the first two, so I'll just convert them all as if they were unique and live with some slight duplication.

Bug (I guess) report:

Wood and wild elves don't have access to the new faces. Sun and drow don't either, but their custom counterparts (Iridoryan and Tel'gothrim) do.
