RP Help.

Hey all, so I've actually ran into a bit of an issue with my roleplaying abilities... In a nut shell, I've got no clue how to play my character Xarion Black as a reformed Ex-Canite and now Sub-Constable of the fleet, I'm having difficulty working out how I introduce him to the good aligned characters of Dasaria, I've put a question below which I'm unsure how to resolve, so any advice or opinion on how I should alter Xarion to help me get my brain around doing this.

So my major problem I have with Xarion currently is getting him involved in RP, with him being in the fleet, I can't think why he would approach another character or a group of them. It just doesn't really feel like Xarion to come over trying to make friends haha but there must be some other solutions for this? By the way... It's note worthy that I find myself a bit anti-social to the Dasaria community, I'm trying to sort that out still.

Well, Xarion could try to start making an effort to at least get to know the community I reckon. If he wants to be a good guard, he should know who he's guarding, no? Plus, a bit of good will more often loosen tongues than other approaches... You want to keep the community on your good side, so I'd consider it a strategic approach if he'd attempt to become more socially adjusted.

RP wise...maybe he's getting intel on the people he's choosing to talk to rather than just for fun. See who is more crazy than the next. Its also a way for him to see who is relevant to who in the land.

So lets say he's been chatting up Cel (cuz gods know im braindead and this is all i got)...he might know shes relevant now to certain Chars on a personal level and if something came up he could probe her for leads based on who she knows. Things a detective might use.

He forcibly maintains his composure, yet is somehow unwilling to speak out to and connect with the other victims of Voldemort's childhood abuse... the memory is too painful! << !xp 50

I should mention, this is the first time I've tried to roleplay a good guy, I've typically stuck to the more criminal side of RP.

I totally understand where you're coming from, here. You're reaching outside of your comfort zone and expanding your horizons, which I find to be amazing and extremely difficult. From my own experience, the easest way to break into the RP is to find some sort of hook, or problem that your character needs help with resolving. This gives other players the opportunity to share in your story and get to know your character on a more meaningful level. For instance, as an ex-Canite, surely there would be some Canites who are not happy with a turn-coat and are trying to kill him, or perhaps Xarion can hear the whispers of corruption that are trying to pull him back into his previous life. There are endless possibilities here. From the time I've had with Xarion, I think he is full of promise and you are doing a great job with him.

Overhear the conversation, misunderstand and then attempt to arrest one of them. Instant RP, and if it goes wrong you at least have new enemies.

Thanks for the advice all, I think I have a few ideas on how to get Xarion involved more.

I know the feeling. This may not work all the time, but in general, just talk about "something", instead of useless chit-chat. I rarely feel like talking about the weather or how fabulous those new earrings look on x character, but I often approach someone and ask about a rumour or the latest news about an ongoing event, or just recruit people/ask for help for a quest (and interact with each other meanwhile), or whatever.

I don't know Xarion well, but perhaps you can also approach someone out of curiosity every now and then, if that character has some kind of unusual trait. Or something related to his/her profession - i.e. ask a bard character to play a song because you are bored at work.
