Weather in Dasaria?
Weather in Dasaria?
I was wondering, is there a reason Dasaria doesn't use the weather engine?
It really adds to the realism... and it doesn't seem like you use day/night cycles either.

Ummm except for all the times its day or nite right?
But seriously i would think rain would make most people systems cry at this point.

I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

i've logged on when its always day then
and i am 80% sure rain has next to no effect on system performance - not sure about server performance..
next content i submit will employ the weather system to its maximum effect

when you log in it actually tells you what time of day it is in dasaria, i thought that was pretty nifty, might tell you why its always day out when you log in

in a 32x32 ext area filled with objects - creatures placeables and a few SFX the rain & wind makes zero difference on my machine, and im not using a 7950 or something... my computer is average at best.
lets just see how it goes when its complete, only takes two clicks to disable it

You do realise just how many resources this area would use up, right?thedork wrote:in a 32x32 ext area filled with objects - creatures placeables and a few SFX the rain & wind makes zero difference on my machine, and im not using a 7950 or something... my computer is average at best.

I hope you're a hell of a builder, otherwise don't be surprised if your area desn't make it in. An area that large would require at least 200-250 hours of work put into it so that it matches the resources it would use up.
We'll probably be lucky if we get 15 exterior areas before the server requires another machine.
I don't mean to sound like a jerk and this isn't addressed to you as such; but just because the server is lacking a great deal of content, it doesn't mean one should fill that gap with inferior content. I'll be more than happy to wait an extra month for a great area than have a bunch of them just quickly thrown together so that it fulfills some minor purpose. : )
We'll just see when other PWs launch (I mean things that were regarded as good in NwN1), then we can compare, but I think they'll also be of a generally high standard.

edit... i should elaborate, i don't make areas in hope that they get into dasaria, i make them because i love to do so, and if it fits into dasaria, then all the better.

Any builders know what the weather percentages for Daris were? (Rain, Wind, Lightning?)
And as a side note, I had totally forgotten how slow the NWN1 toolset was!
