On the worship of Ineania

Post by Wyvern »

The Plowmen

Among Ineania’s faithful there exists a semi-secret organization of wizards, sorcerers, and bards whom go by the name: Plowmen. Humble and altruistic, they forgo luxuries normally enjoyed by those with magical talents, instead traveling between farming communities in their simple garb, using their gifts to aid those in need without demand of pay or praise.

Though they do not advertise their presence, all rural folk have heard about them. Most people will give shelter to a traveling Plowman, and those who harm one are often ostracized from the community.

Usually a Plowman (or Plow-woman) works alone, though when confronted by a problem out of their league they will not balk at requesting assistance, nor joining another Plowman in need. There are no ranks among their group; every Plowman is equal to his brothers/sisters.

Problems a member usually helps with include mediation, divining water sources, working the fields, eliminating threats to the community, or simple advice. They work closely with Ineania’s priesthood, and prefer to operate out of her temples.

Vows of a Plowman:
1.)Forsake worldly possessions, wear what you need and keep only what is necessary to continue your work.

2.)Give aid to the needy, unless doing so will cause undue harm to another.

3.)Foster good-will among men, hatred and mistrust bring only misery.

4.)Seek not the spilling of blood, for one death is the loss of two hands.

Plowmen and the Empire
Due to its violent reactions, most Plowmen avoid angering the empire, for fear an innocent community may be caught in the backlash. The empire ignores these mages for the most part, excluding times when a Plowman’s agenda crosses their own interests.

Plowmen and Other Faiths
Most Plowmen do not support outlawed faiths… openly. One might magically disguise a persecuted follower of Tyrak or Rel, or even teleport them away from danger; but they won’t place an entire village at the mercy of inquisitors. This behavior has put them at odds with Lochwarites who travel the backwater farmlands spreading fear and intolerance. They also count Culnites and followers of Coloth as enemies, due to the destructive tendencies of those groups.

Besides Ineania, many Plowmen also give prayers to Nuarari, Brintha, and Peralia.
