Not to be taken seriously

Post by Roaslind »

I have had it pointed out to me (politely and in character) that acting on the information from name displayed over toons is not appropriate and not in character - - - {and i can see the point and agree :)}

So we (Fist, Tri, Math, Tal, Rosa) were fighting a raid in thralls gate - orcs everywhere - then some stangers turn up - which none of us recognized (admittedly with "neophytes of lochwar" - written over their head). I was in favour of killing them (in character as i assumed they were assocaited with the orcish invasion and - shouldn't rely on sign over their head as not allowed to notice that playing in character)(and the idea to accidently kill some lochwar was appealling). Spokesman said would overlook my lapse (or somesuch) due to our service killing orcs - i think they are involved with the orcs and should be dragged off to the appropriate authorities to explain their involvement (ie authorities in Cear guardhouse - if so inclined - - - or faction boss for rebel faction - if so inclined - - )

Same is true of armed thugs all over town - - all sorts of bizare legal conseqences from historically weird legal systems - bottom line though is the powerful hold most of the cards *sigh* (the concept of arresting a DM's toon is a little silly i know {hence the title of post})

As far as i understand - prior to modern times - recognition of authority by personal reconition of office holder - - -- - -- - - - i don't think anything should be done - - - - -- - apart form realizing roleplaying possibilites of - not relying on displayed name over head - [easy out is cheif priest of lochwar temple etc know me and will vouch for me eg] and of course killing all the witnesses to an "unfortunate killing" :)

Sounds like something silly and fun enough for me to want to see where it leads, if your interested to play it out have the char in question report their suspicions to Constable Tobias Skyler Blythe of the Fleet would make the most IC sense if we meet at the Fleet Guardhouse in NC. (Do the DM's have any objection to this?)

It'd be reasonable to figure out by their dress that they were neophytes. Also, they'd have reason to be in Thrall's since there is a Lochwar Temple there. I didn't quite understand what else you were saying, but the point is that you can surmise things about a character that might lead you to the same conclusion as looking at the name above their head would have.

It Depends.

Nonetheless I would say that PCs immediately killing whomever a DM places before them is a pretty common occurrence. Many otherwise-crucial-to-the-plot NPCs have met the same fate.

I was part of a RP that involved a Magnus fighting a Ji-Lyn. My comrades attacked the Ji-Lyn, and helped the Magnus - my character took a risk and engaged the Magnus - who, under the DM's control, kept saying, "Not, me you idiot! Attack her!" Needless to say, your actions do alter the outcomes. If you think that the Neophytes of Lochwar are with the orcs, I don't see anything wrong with RPing that. You know, if a Neophyte of Lochwar is appearing .. outside of a temple .. odds are, a DM is behind it. They're usually more than willing to put you into a life or death situation (heavily emphasizing the latter, I've noticed).

It all depends on your character as far as I see it. If you are playing a highly intelligent wizard you are more likely to see Neophyte under red cloaks, rather then a person working with orcs. But if you are a Dwarven Barbarian, and about as intelligent as the rocks your brethren hammer, well then you may just put the big guy in red under the same group as the big green guys now covered in red that you just put your axe through. Besides, if the DM's want their NPC to go and send you somewhere to die, its only fair to get their NPC killed first :twisted:

Ah, yes. The pitfalls of having your entire beautifully crafted campaign destroyed because of the always present over-zealous 'I attack everything at first sight' player.

Are you sure about that? Last time I checked the Magnus and Ji-Lyn were one and the same...

A Magnus, doesn't neccesarily mean The Magnus Order, as magnus is another term for a mage or wizard. Although the Magnus Order is the same as the Ji-Lyn, so it wouldn't make much sense for them to be fighting... But then again, it is the Magnus Order, you never know.

It was part of a dream sequence, and yes, I'm positive.

The Magnus wanted us to help her, and she was destroying the Ji-Lyn.

There was another Ji-Lyn who appeared a bit earlier than that, who had taken dreamstones away from a tower.

It was odd, but Edana made the choice to attack the Magnus.
