Cearian Weapon Racks
Cearian Weapon Racks
Hey all,
Great PW keep up the good work on it!
I do have one question though, what is the deal with these new weapon racks? The have like a permanent trap on them that does about 50-60 damage... It's making it very difficult to loot these... Could someone explain why all the regular weapon racks got replaced with these?
Thanks

I was not able to loot these at all. I tried to "use" the rack several times, set off the trap each time (died once), and was unable to acquire what was in the rack. I think the trap has to be disarmed by a rogue, or no loot for you. I can certainly understand the need to do something about the stealth/invis ninja looters, but I'm not so sure this is the answer, because it punishes the legit looters as well.
Guys, this is NOT a solution. At best, it was an amusing addition (I hope sporadic) to break the kill, loot cycle briefly. They are meant to make you stop, think, and wonder what is going on. Not every chest is like this. And nor will every one be. But in a few circumstances, it might help to have a certain class with you. It is the same as having a big door that is jammed, that might have some loot (or some critter of uber killingness) that you need a big, burly fighter type to bash with a blunt weapon in order to break it down.
Its a honey pot. NOT a solution to a problem.

Lisa [writing]:
I propose to determine the answer to the question: is my brother dumber than a hamster?
Bart:
Hey Lis, look what I can do! [inserts fist into mouth, but discovers he can't retract it] Mmmph -- doggone it.
The first test explores the subject's ability to acquire food. In a miniature room filled with dollhouse furniture, Lisa places a hamster food pellet on top of a bookcase. The hamster notices it's out of reach, and drags a couch over. Then he climbs on it and retrieves the pellet. "Remarkable," Lisa observes. Now we repeat the experiment with Bart. In this case, a cupcake is set on the top shelf of the bookcase. (An actual bookcase, not the dollhouse one.) Bart, on his daily rounds, walks by.
Bart:
Stupid books...hey, a cupcake!
Bart attempts to climb the bookcase to get it, but the plan fails. The bookcase topples over, pinning Bart. Maggie walks by and, without
breaking stride, picks up the cupcake.
Cut to the next experiment, which Lisa is about to explain for us. The food is connected to a mild electrical current. The hamster tries to eat the food, but is promptly zapped. He reels back in fear.
Lisa:
The hamster has learned a valuable lesson: beware the hand of man.
Bart's turn again. A cupcake is connected to the mild electrical current. There's even a sign that says, "Do not touch." Bart sees the cupcake. Bart sees the sign. He tosses it aside and goes for the cupcake. He gets shocked. He tries again He tries once more.
Bart:
"Ow."
Again.
"Ow."
Again.
"Ow."
Hamster: 2
Dasaria: 0

There are some really nasty traps around. I got a nice experience from that this morning.
I took on the quest regarding a missing person, and it became evident that he had been lost in the catacombs beneath the city.
My character is only level 2 at the moment, and was almost eaten by a really scary ghoul. A bit shaken, he saw the two coffins it had been guarding and rubbed his hands.
Just as James was about to open the second one, he spotted that it was trapped. I greedily chose to disarm the trap right away. Rolled a 1.
Poor Jimmy was burned literally to crisp, but survived with 2 hitpoints. As he stumbles out into the fresh morning air, moaning and coughing, he is healed by a bard(?).
Needless to say, he get's a naive companion to follow him back down. At least then there is someone else who can take the lead and trip the traps for him.
But it was not James' day. Everything goes perfectly, until James step in front again. Probably mumbling a curse to lady luck when he hears the sound of a soft "click" as he sets his foot down.
Suddenly he is back at the stairs he came down with a few spikes and a ringing sound in his head.
Okay, that made him slightly angry, and he just had to see if he was truly cursed this day.. So when he spots a trap he had overlooked on the way back, he examines it closely. Seeing as it is a minor flametrap, he figures "what could go wrong? I'll recover this one.".
Well, he could roll a 1. James goes "Shwoosh!" back to the stairs, where he is even more confused about what is happening.
Just before the server was shut down, he failed setting two more traps.. one of which blew up in his face in the process.
Being a stubborn man, and a follower of the lady of pain, it is unlikely that he will stop tampering with explosive things which has bits of sharp metal added in the mix..
But that day he surely considered it.
