Well I understood him, for what it's worth.

Fixed.

Mindboggling.

I guess some drow priest was hanging around some mares in heat when a stallion happened by. It was just an unfortunate case of mistaken identity.

The pony must be a punishment from Llolth. ..."You want cute and cuddly then ye shall suffer cute and cuddly"... I wonder what the players would have chosen for characters if the Drow option didn't exist. I'm partial to Yuan-Ti Deathknights myself. I wonder if anyone will create a deathknight template.

Okay I'm going to add to this thread:

I have a question about something that happened yesterday, and I'd just like to know if I handled it correctly. It may sound odd that I'm so concerned about whether I acted correctly or not, but I really love Dasaria 2. I played on about 8 or 10 different PWs in NWN 1, and Dasaria 2 is my favourite of them all. So I'm trying to get a feel for how these things should be handled; I don't want to be labeled a griefer or get in OOC trouble with the DMs, etc. If I get in IC trouble with the powers that be...well, that should be fun.

Yesterday I was playing Turin, my Neutral Wood Elf. While selling junk to Ealden, someone (who shall remain nameless) tried to pick his pockets. Ealden freaked out and started chasing the guy around with his smithing hammer...it was pretty funny! I remember watching the guy and just thinking to myself: "What an idiot...". The wannabe thief escaped Ealden's wrath by running to the Trades and Commons district (I think). A couple of players besides myself saw the whole thing.

After this I laughed, and walked over to the front of the Mistyvale Inn where some others had gathered around, chatting. A minute later the thief showed up, and bumped into one or two people. So I started harassing him in-character. I told him I had seen him try to steal from Ealden, and that I didn't like thieves, that he should leave, etc. I also said that if he bumped into me I'd sic my wolf (animal companion) on him.

We bandied words for a bit, and then he cast Darkness on me (he was a Tiefling) and started to run. I chased him around, not really sure what I was going to do with him yet...eventually he ran to the town wall and stood there. I think he thought he was stealthed from me. I told him that I could see him, and that he should stop trying to hide. At this point I sent him a tell, saying: "Mind if I kill you?". I figured that if he was up for it, I'd just smack him and we'd call it a day. The whole episode could have ended there.

Instead, he ran inside the Mistyvale and sent me some tells, saying something along the lines of: "As soon as they (I asssume Obsidian?) fix stealth, I'll be able to steal from you and there won't be anything you can do about it". I was pretty disappointed at this point; up until here, we had pretty much acted in-character. I told him that he was mistaken about the stealth thing; he conned "Effortless" to me, and my Spot skill is maxed...and I'm an Elf! I doubt me being able to see him had anything to do with stealth being broken or not.

So anyway...my question is: did I act ok? Or was I too nice to the guy? If someone casts a non-violent spell at me, can I whack them? I mean both IC and OOC. OOC, I don't want to be labeled a griefer and get in trouble--I love this place! Also IC, I'm not sure what the consequences would be. I've read the Laws that Jylea the Ambassador gives out, and it sounds as though his casting Darkness at me was against the law, but if I had chosed to retaliate, that would be against the law, as well. If there aren't any guards around to report the guy to, how should I deal with having Darkness cast at me, assuming I don't want to go to gaol for killing someone? Could I kill someone for casting Darkness and claim self-defense? Obviously, I don't know what they might do after the darkness has descended...

Thanks, and sorry if I'm dense! I'm having a great time in Das 2 and don't want to do anything to screw it up. I didn't PvP in NWN 1, so I'm not exactly sure how to handle these situations.

You acted well within the server rules, and handled it as ICly as you could, which is better than most do.

As for the thief's comments, with an attitude like that, he'll be lucky to have a place to play before the bugs get fixed if he keeps it up.

Yeah, that's what I figured, and why I chose not to mention his name. He'll probably ruin things for himself before too long; he doesn't need my help!

But as for the other question...what would happen IC if I Flame Struck someone to death for casting Darkness at me? In an evil empire, would I get a small fine for acting in self-defense, or spend some time in gaol for killing someone who didn't actually "attack" me, or worse?

Perhaps the Laws of the Empire book that Jylea gives out could add a line about acting in self-defense, as I didn't really see a law that directly applied.

Someone casting darkness on you could be construed as a hostile act and you are within your rights to defend yourself with reasonable force. Usually that means you can kill them. You may get a reprimand or a writ from the guard if they are having a bad day, but if you were responding to hostile actions, they will likely look more favourably on your actions.
