Well heres the thing though while those are great ideas for how the drow should be played out I think the part that needs to be stress more is the tone of the everyday life of the people of Caer.
I don't think even 35% of the players on Das2 relize that they live in what could be best described as a Fantasy version of Cuba. The government controls everything and pretty much has a rule for anything and often times has conflicting laws and it's up to who you have defending you and who's pockets you've lined on if the law affects you or not.
That being said if I remember reading earlier right that the Varanites actually allied with Drow during the war which would explain why they are seen in Caer. Also just because you are evil doesn't mean you're going to slaughter people.
A Lawful Evil Cleric could be found in a good community as the head priest. He might corrupt the crops and tell the people that if they tithe more that their god will listen to their prayers and then stop corrupting the crops and increasing the coin in his pocket.
I tend to think that the Drow in Dasaria are more like this now. Especially those who live on the surface. Heck the drow from FR would thrive in a nation like Varana. They like to plot and plan and exact revenge.. (Lochwar?) so they fit in really well. Over all I think people need to relize that everyone in Varana is too some extent corrupt. I mean look at all the guards... The semstress.... They all tend to have what most would dub as a character flaw but in all honesty it's just how you survive in a world where you are being watched every moment of everyday.

Tieflings are definitely shunned and outcast. They are mostly human, but carry infernal blood. This makes them another mixed breed race. My personal take on Tieflings in Dasaria is that they are an unfortunate consequence of the Empire turning to powers that they couldn't completely control. The demons and other infernal creatures they called forth eventually freed themselves of their yoke and preyed in multiple ways on the countryside.
Because the non-human portion is infernal (demonic), most people tend to assume the worst of Tieflings. They are generally expected to be thieves, sorcerers, and miscreants. This doesn't mean that these are their only avenues or that all Tieflings are troublemakers and malcontents. It is, however, what most people's first reaction will be.

both Drow and Varanites have a history of betrayalCoasty1981 wrote: That being said if I remember reading earlier right that the Varanites actually allied with Drow during the war which would explain why they are seen in Caer.
When there is no other way, the perilous path is the only road to salvation.
I like your words about the Tieflings, my heart kinda sank when i started reading this at first...
I know people like to say that Drow are only an underdark race, but I feel its not that unlikely to find a few here and there, especially in Evil aligned area's pulling the strings behind one group or another.
Personally I agree for the most Part about Tieflings, Their a lot like Halforcs in a way.
My belief is a lot of the humans hate them, not just because of their appearance or heritage but they show a dark mirror to humans, what they can be at their worst. Just as the Aasimar are the amplification of all that is good in humans, (and they can be evil also..) so are Tieflings the amplification of humans capacity for evil.
Still I think one of the most inspiring things you could find are Good Tieflings doing good things... In a way People could look upon them and say *if theirs hope for them then maybe not everything is so bad..*
Just like how a Blackguard Aasimar should be one of the more terrifying and disturbing things a human could ever be unlucky to discover.
One other thing to Remember... Tieflings can be split into a futher subdevision. Devil based, and Demon based. That is to say Devils are LE, and Demons CE. Thus Tieflings of those lines would have more of a leaning toward the Chaotic or Lawfull side..

This is not the modern day world. D&D can be seen more like the dark ages. Although modern fatasy literature women seems to be accepted as warrors and allowed in combat, racial hatered is very real.tenodera wrote:Dont sticky this. This is the narrow minded, although well intended stereotyping some are trying to avoid. You sound fairly well versed in Drow history, yet you only mention Lolth.
What of the followers of Eilistraee? She is a DROW goddess of song and beauty, worshipped under the stars and the moonlight. Completely good. Your one sided post mentions nothing of her. Her freaking creed is is all about aiding the weak and encouraging happiness everywhere lol.
Ghaunadaur - Ok, mostly evil followers but many are of a neutral alignment. Pretty much Lolth-like.
Vhaeraun - Drow god of thievery, and he is all about furthering drow aims and interests on the SURFACE world. He PROMOTES that Drow should work with other elven races, and disdains relations with dwarves/gnomes. Humans/Halflings are most often tolerated.
In the 2nd Edition "Drow of the Underdark" book, it even states that approximately 15% of the entire Drow race is of non evil alignment ("good") and mostly living on the surface. That is quite a sizable portion when you consider that you are referring to an entire population. It goes on to mention Drow with sucessful trading careers in almost all major cities such as Waterdeep, Calimshan, Chessenta and the like.
On a different note however, this is all subjective as this is Dasaria, right? Does the Drow pantheon exist here? I didnt see them listed with the gods. That makes any ooc knowledge of their stenophagous culture a pretty weak argument.
Dwarves hate elves, elves hate dwarves.. Humans doesn't really like anyone. Everyone dislike orcs.. and any man with an unseemly birth defect would likely be considered cursed and put out of his misery for 'the greater good'. Or maybe he was allowed to grow up so he could be regularily stoned by the local populace.
My character would never, ever, trust a drow. Why? Because they are drow. (He would probably distrust any elf with blue/gray skincolor as well. The drow are evil, seducing, baby eating monsters that should be put down before someone gets hurt.
Take the scene from when you meet Viconia in Baldurs Gate, that is how the usual treatment of drow would be in the Forgotten realms. (They burn her at the stake, while being happy that they are doing a good deed.)
If someone even claimed drow could be good, he would not be taken seriously at all. He would most likely be cast out of any social circles.

Or taken to the apothecary because, obviously, the Drow bewitched him.jawsofhana wrote:If someone even claimed drow could be good, he would not be taken seriously at all. He would most likely be cast out of any social circles.
Draco - "Allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste."
Lorcann - "BACON!"
